I cannot help thinking the sooner England are set packing from the World Cup the sooner English cricket can clear out all the deadwood in the corridors of power and get with the limited overs programme. Agenda as follows:-
1. A recognition that players scoring 162 off 66 balls is the benchmark not the exception in both 50 and 20 overs cricket and the England team needs to be prepared for targeting 400+ /225+ scores in 50/20 overs.
2. Appointment of a World Class Overseas Limited Overs Coach for both 50 and 20 overs.
3. Appointment of a specialist Limited Overs Selectors from the World Cricket Pool.
4. Separation of the Test Squad from the Limited Overs Squad unless there is an exceptional talent truly adept at both forms of the game. (Questionable as to whether any current Test players qualify for a future Limited Overs Squad?)
5. Creation of MCC /ECB 50:20 Management board and dispense with the ridiculous notion of fancy dress jackets and ties together with the thinking that the outdated cricket doctrines pedalled from the era of Boycott/ Brearley to Cooke /Moores is actually taking the short form of the game forward.
6. Regionalisation of the short form of the game to develop a separate product which allows the Franchises to develop specialist squads. This will allow both forms of the game to compete and be successful at World level without fear of player burn out.
7. Dissenting members of the MCC or ECB to this way forward should tender resignations immediately!
