I think that a current generation console cricket game should make use fo the anologue sticks on both the Xbox and the PS2. Below is my suggested control configuration based on the Xbox controller. Feel free to compliment or pick apart!

Batting.

* The batsman’s movement is controlled with the left analogue stick.
* The batman’s arms (i.e. the bat) is controlled with the right analogue stick.
* To face a delivery, the player might shuffle in front of leg stump (left analogue stick to the left), back swing (right analogue stick up) and attempt to hit a cover drive (right analogue stick down and to the left)
* The left trigger forces batsman onto the back foot (by default the batman goes on to his front foot)
* The right trigger forces a defensive stroke
* The faster/further the movement with the right analogue stick, the harder the ball is hit.
* Whether the ball is hit in the air or not is determined by timing as well as how hard the ball is hit.
* The A button initiates a run and is pressed again come back for another etc.
* The X button is used to dive when near the crease.

Catching.
* When the ball is hit in the air, in the vicinity of a fielder (see above) the game cuts into ‘slow mo’ mode where you would need to hit a random button sequence in the correct order for the catch to be held.
* If you had a nick go to straight first slip at waist height (an easy slips catch) the game would slow down, and you would have to press X then B in 1 second for the catch to be held.
* If the nick was falling short and to the right (a bloody hard catch) you might have to hit X/X/B/A in the same timeframe for it to be held.
* The amount of time given and the difficulty of the button sequence would also be dependant on the fielding stats of the fielder. So, Punter might get 1 second whereas Phil Tuffnell would only get 0.5 seconds.
* Outfielders may need to use the left analogue stick to get the fielder into the vicinity of a catch to initiate the catching sequence.

Ground fielding.

* The left analogue stick is used to control the fielding player.
* Right trigger is used to sprint.
* The X button is used to dive.
* The B button is used to change which fielder is being controlled.
* The Y button is used to throw to the keeper’s end and the A button to throw to the bowler’s end.
* The controls as above would also be used to put the fielder in the vicinity of a catch to initiate the catching sequence (see below).

Bowling.
* The right trigger would initiate the bowler’s run-up.
* During the run-up, the right analogue stick determines how far down the pitch the ball bounces. So, if you hold the right analogue stick halfway back during the run-up, the ball would be just short of a length. If you held it all the way forward, you bowl a full toss.
* The right trigger pressed a second time would plant the bowlers back foot to initiate the bowling action.
* During the bowling action, the left analogue stick would be used to control the ball’s direction and swing: e.g. Holding the stick slightly to the left would angle the delivery outside off stump. Alternatively, moving the stick in a circular motion from bottom (6 O’clock) anti clockwise to 10 o’clock would result in an outswinger/leg spinner angling down the off side.
* Pressing the left trigger instead of the right trigger to initiate the bowling action results in a slower delivery (pace bowler) top spinner (spin bowler)

The designers have to work alot more on the batsmans stance and the bowlers run ups/ actions more. The shots look fine.

Hey all, first post, i have read the whole thread and like what i see. I think 2006 definately needs updates physics, because in previous games the physics have been at best, second rate. I also think that to make it more realistic the bowlers should swing the ball alot more, and the bowling meter should be a round-about judge of where the ball is going to bounce. It should just be a red or blue dot, and the harder the difficulty setting, the smaller the dot gets, and the ball should pitch somewhere around that dot, so that you have an idea of where it is going to pitch, but you are not 100% sure and when it is bowled you have to use SKILL to pick your shot, rather then know where you are going to hit the ball before it is bowled... If that all makes sense. Players abitlities should be alot more realistic then in other versions, e.g Michael Clarke is a brilliant cutter of the ball, but he is not the best puller on earth. Unlike the horrific attempt of Cricket 2004, Michael Clarke Should look like Michael Clarke, and Adam Gilchrist should look like Adam Gilchrist, because generic faces suck. I am all for real bats like Kookaburra and Slazenger, but that probably wont happen due to rights and other legal crap. I like the controls for PC so i reckon they should stay the same, with the inclusion and removal of a few shots. The current stances in cricket 2004 are terrible, i think there should be several different stances, and given to each player accordingly. Online play would take the game to a whole new level, it would create a new standard of realism and make the game a heap more fun. I dont think there is any excuse for poor graphics in this game, i think HB should take ful advantage of all of the new graphics cards on the market, while keeping in mind the older ones aswell. Since Cricket 2004 there have been huge leaps in the standard of graphics in games and i think the cricket series should be able to keep up with the best of them.
BUGS!! ARGH don't we hate them, if it means that i would get a game without bugs i would be happy to pay to test the beta version because even if you have dazzling graphics and incredible physics, a game can very easily be ruined by bugs. I think stats should change as you play the game to add more realism. (see if I can get clarkes 1 day average to 100 :P). Another thing the cricket games have been lacking is support by EA and HB. I think every few months a patch should be released adding new players etc. I would like to see alot more camera angles and things like nine-track and hawk-eye, As well as a revamp of the commentary. I think weather conditions should vary, and for gods sake MAKE IT RAIN! Take advantage of the Ducksworth lewis system to make the game even more real. I think the crowds also need to be more animated to create a more exciting atmosphere during the game. I want this Cricket game to keep me glued to my chair, something the other cricket games failed to do. The ball should get realtime damage, e.g if you smack a six and it hits concrete or something, the ball should get a mark on the side it lands on, to affect swing etc.

I think that is about all i have for now...

In Brian Lara International Cricket they reckon they're going to have real sponsors on bats and stuff. There's always going to be bugs in a game, but EA's Cricket 2004 was bloody horrendous, the only thing they can do now is improve because surely from all the complaining and abusing of EA's bugs in Cricket 2004 it should lead to a less bug-ridden game, shouldn't it?

ill post what i said in the lara cricket thread

I couldnt care if it had the same crappy gfx as 2004.. all i care about is the gameplay

Cricket 2004 was horrible.. infact all cricket games have been horrible really... 1 problem

THEY HAVE BEEN TO EASY..... 2004 was OK after u installed about 1000 custom user patches/hacked exes/config files.. and still it had so many flaws and ways to exploit the game...

Basically they need to make the game more dynamic and organic in the gameplay.. there needs to be some way to control the batter... not just (Hold left ..push button and ball goes for six)

Just simple things really

- Have realistic physics and AI.. make the ball react with a batt how it really would.. where it hits the batt etc..
- Have control over the ball (Drift.. swing.. etc etc)
- Make shitty batters shitty.. etc.. make the stats MEAN something
- Make fielding not boring.... maybe when there is a catch on the game slows down and u have to get a cursor into the centre and hold it there or something.. and if the catch is hard then it would be harder to get the cursor there etc)
- Deformable pitch.. (Eg u bowl in 1 place for a while then it will deteriorate.. and then when u bowl there the ball will act a bit diff)
- A "Tru swing" batter type.. eg..
-- You could use the "W" key to put your foot foward
-- You could use the "S" key to get on the backfoot
-- You could use the "A" and "D" key to control when your aiming your body
-- You could hold "CTRL" key and push "A" or "D" to move where the batter is standing
-- You could swing with the mouse (Kinda like u do in tigerwoods golf) ..
-- Of course u could change all that to be with analog sticks (I use a analog controller on the pc)
- Better commentary
- Better Graphics (Lighting effects etc... in all honestly compared to every other sports games.. cricket games have been the worst.. cricket 2004 is really 2001 gfx... and 2001 was really 96 gfx...

EVERYTHING i have listed *Can* be done.. its just a matter of devs doing it.. althou i dont have high hopes for any cricket game really.. simply cause of past games

did cricket 2004 have batsmen form ?
if not then 2006 should
It only had "Bastman Confidence" in single matches, no form carried through, say a test series for example. And that is something that would probably be one of the absolute basics...

I think you should be able to start charging down the pitch before the bowler delivers the ball. And there should be an option to walk down the pitch, or full on charge.

dont really see the point.

The whole ethichs of cric 04 is wrong, its a batsman orientated game the bowling should be more rewarding. I would like to see swing, seam movement. Also some of the fast elites like bond, lee, shoaib, harmison, should look like they are really bowling faster than every one else.

I want the fielding to be more realistic. and be able to move your fielders anywhere on the ground, with the mouse would be the best way. When bowling you should be able to put the bowling marker a bit further back so you can bowl a full toss... I am not sure why you would want to bowl a full toss, but we should have the option sone the less. I also want to see realtime deterioration of the pitch.

Of course, a more challenging gameplay would be welcome along with a career mode.

But I would really like to see more realistic touches in the game such as:

- Real life individual traits (Thorpe playing with his gloves, Warne's unique bowling action)
- Different batsman celebrations for reaching 50/100
- Different celebrations by fielders for wickets depending on situation
- Showing more camera views after wickets and between deliveries (zooming in on players or the crowd)
- Including drinks breaks
- Including celebration and presentation scene after every match
- Bat-pad appeals for spin deliveries
- More fielder fumbles
- More inside or outside edges
- Wicketkeeper talking behind the stumps
- More crowd movement and chants (booing for not-outs)
- Showing foot-marks later on in test matches
- Including more misbehaving deliveries (keeping low or bouncing sharply)
- An option to view highlights after the day's play

-each bowler has an average speed so every bowler in every group doesn't bowl exactly the same
-end of match presentations
- D/L method
- Different opposition captains have different styles

these are just a few which might already have been said that i came up with
