2 days off can’t be bad

would like to say all the new lads contributed really well to a big win Especially Bally Bally and Cody “Arthur Mullard” Yusuf

even Blathers took a couple of handy catches and saw the day out last night

At local level today, disappointing defeat for Hpool cc. No major contributions from.Borthwick today although that La Fontaine-jackson seems quite a decent player. He did well in the uni games v durham 1sts & 2nds.

Liam Trevaskis was playing for the opposition (Darlington RA).

I’m miss Trev for Durham in white ball . Always felt he was a bit forgotten but he always seems to do something in games Durham won

oh @The_Rey will be in dreamland again 3-0 palace and a missed pen. Villa were mediocre

A fantastic win that, mainly just because of what a defeat would’ve meant and also because when you’re faced with a pitch that is as bad as that, you just have to get the job done.

I think looking back, we probably bowled too ‘normal’ on the first day, because once the two teams worked out that you essentially just bowl at either the stumps or on a 4th stump line even the most mediocre of county trundlers (Waite/Allison)* suddenly look lethal.

Our second innings bowling was absolutely superb, to a man. Notably Rainey, who got the ball rolling with a wicket in the first over - which should’ve been 0-2 off 1 because Nicholls was absolutely plumb to the sixth ball - and the momentum from that point on never stopped going our way. For me, Ben was MoM, 6-36 in 25 overs in the match and I suppose quite fitting that in a lineup where our four-man pace attack includes three debutants, it’s our homegrown lad taking the biggest plaudits.

On those debutants however, Jake Ball and Codi Yusuf were both fantastic, a pair of great additions to the side and they’ve more than justified their selection in this game. Blatherwick bowled admirably in the first innings too, with plenty of effort and in my view he probably deserved a wicket or two to show for his efforts. Rhodes deserves a mention, he sent down 7 overs in the first dig and got some nice movement both ways, conceding just four singles. It was an intriguing sample, through three games most people had serious doubts about his bowling on what have been largely flat decks, but he definitely posed a threat when the pitch showed a bit of assistance.

Batting wise, I think the second innings was merely a case of ‘by any means necessary’ and our lads showed the kind of positivity and proactiveness that we probably should’ve employed in the first go, but ultimately all’s well that ends well. Their bowlers were no less of a threat, but it proved the point that once you force them to change their lines and lengths you get more to hit, they had nowt to play with and in reality, that second wicket partnership broke their spirits and took all the pressure off us.

Again, a GREAT win to get us going, 45 points from 4 games isn’t what we would’ve wanted, but I’m a lot more confident about our bowling with the new additions involved. All of a sudden there’s real competition for places and we could have a lineup of Potts, Raine, Ball and Yusuf for next week, with no need to rush Doggett back. It buys us another week to work on the rehab of the batsmen too.

Feel free anyone to share my ‘match report’ with our comrades behind the tin curtain. I suppose a Durham win AND having my emails answered would be too much to ask for.

All that’s left now is to sing the song…

OHHHHHHHH ME LADS 😜
