Guilty as charged! 🤣 It was a good way to kill time between frames in the snooker.
Old baz has been on top form this week. Hope he can win this but Higgins will take some beating

Selby another appearing to be in top form going into the crucible

I read today that Ronnie may not decide until the Thursday before it starts

Higgins v Hawkins is high quality, best they've played for ages.

Really fancy Wilson has a chance of breaking the Crucible Curse though.

Thoroughly enjoyable first day of the 2025 campaign for Durham, I’m sure we’d have all taken that close of play score when the coin came down facing the wrong way at 10:30.

It’s slightly disappointing we didn’t make more for less though, given that we’ve come to expect highly competent batting from this group, but I suppose we can allow them a few mistakes in the early season as they find their feet again.

It’s still quite difficult to judge whether it’s par, or if not, whether it’s better/worse. The pitch seemed to offer some variable bounce in the first session, it also appeared to provide Ahmed with some turn from time to time, but the frustration comes with the knowledge that most of our batsmen appeared to get themselves out rather than being dismissed by supreme bowling.

For Notts, O’Neill could be useful, he bowled the most probing line and length of any home bowler all day and looked particularly threatening in his first two spells. Pennington and Tongue looked completely toothless for the most part mind, the latter was very wayward and I would’ve been fuming had a Durham bowler performed like that. James is a lovely little cricketer, he always seems to pose a threat even though his bowling looks fairly innocuous to the uninitiated.

Ahmed is going to be one to watch, I think both batsmen will be disappointed with their dismissals to him, but the lad barely waned all day from a general good area and gave very little away. He looks incredibly well disciplined and dare I say ‘complete’ for someone so young. His action is mental mind, especially the bit just before his run-up starts, where he sort of bends his top half forward, sticks his arse out and stands with his legs apart - made me think he was trying to squeeze a shite out 😂.

All in all, a good day for Durham, I think having been inserted it’s a win that we’ll be back in the morning to bat, hopefully we can hang around for half an hour or so more to get up beyond 400 and frustrate the hosts. It’ll be interesting to see how our bowlers fare, 370 feels competitive but I want to get over 400 - that ridiculously short boundary makes it harder I think to truly judge what’s what, although I’d hope that Raine, Potts and Coggers can pose a greater threat than their bowlers.
