I'm just assuming Drissell is being preferred to Callum because he is the better batter and if we play a spinner it's at the expense of a frontline batter.

I disagree. We should play our best spinner regardless of batting ability. Our top order should be delivering and if they aren't, they can't expect a bowler to take up the slack.

Besides we have Potts and Raine who have shown they are capable with the bat. Parkinson did a decent job last week and should have been in this squad in my opinion.

Agreed, it’s never a bad thing for a bowler to be able to bat, but picking a bowler for their batting ability, unless they are a genuine all-rounder, it doesn’t scream faith in either that bowler or the batting lineup

In early season conditions a spinner contribution will ideally be playing a containing role ,hopefully going at < 3 runs an over. Fact is we haven't got a spinner who can do that. I've yet to see Parkinson fulfil that role. Drissell did that for long spells during the Notts game, only getting tap at the very end of their long 1st innings. He deserves a further chance imo.
Certainly agree that bowlers shouldn't be expected to be bailing out our faltering top order.
