Difficult Team Swaps

2010s IND had a pretty solid middle order with Pujara Kohli Rahane. While Smith is a massive upgrade on Rahane, it wouldn't really help us much as our pace attack would still be poor and we wouldn't win away anyway. Without Ash, we might lose the home streak too.
The reason India lost series in the Kohli era in NZ, SA and Eng was due to their fragile middle order, not bowling issues. Smith would make a big difference.

Kallis for Ponting in 2000s Australia is pretty much a no brainer to me. Think this whole "Ponting dominated" thing is overrated here. Kallis at worst was an equal bat, could form a great fulcrum to a lineup of power hitters and most importantly, an exceptionally well 5th bowler, something Australia were searching for in the 2000s, their own Flintoff.
Ponting was the best bat in the world for much of that decade though.

That was only post 2018 after Bumrah came through. Before that, our fast bowling was simply not good enough. So basically 18-19 and during this period he gets banned for a year.
Nah I'll take Ashwin and the home streak.

Yeah but that 2018 period is when Kohlis team had foreign tours. I am assuming Smith plays for them then

Eh, Ponting was better but not that better. Kallis in England was nothing special but fine really, not Ponting in India type of ****
Ponting played two of his best knocks in England, I don't think Kallis vs Ponting in England is close at all really
