Difficult Team Swaps

Would the teams make these difficult decisions to swap their main players?

2000s Aus to switch Ponting for Kallis?

80s WI to switch Marshall for Hadlee?

90s SA to switch Donald for Warne?

2010s Ind to switch Ashwin for Smith?

Current SA to switch Rabada for Root?

Would Aus have preferred the best dominant bat or would Kallis bowling be considered more value-add? I dunno how well Kallis would fit in an Aussie setup.
Kallis' bowling will be significantly handy. Australia post 2005 Ashes did searched for their own Flintoff

I am interested to see how Hadlee would have done in WestIndies - More bowling support and no need to put in extra effort for batting

His incentive to improve his batting goes down.

His bowling average goes down too but he may end up not with the new ball and as a third pacer if the captain doesn't fancy him not being express.

Depends at what point of the player’s career exactly. Ashwin/Smith is the main one I could see but maybe even not then with Kohli be a thing depending on the timing.

That's a great point. For the same two players, it may make sense to swap in one period but not in another period. It will depend on other 10 players in those periods.

If it's simply after seeing entire career, then it's easier. In most cases, you can take the better cricketer and team will either remain the same or become better. It won't work in all cases though.

Yes to all.

The potential replacements are all better players, and better fits for the team. Each team was trying out massively downgraded versions of the potential replacements a fair bit, while having quality players of their own style often missing out. Marshall is an exception here. Too similar a role to Hadlee to make this statement.

Ponting for Kallis I think is a pretty easy one, but the rest I don't think the teams are making the deal.

The choices get worse as you go down the list.

2000s Aus dominated from the front. Their whole aura was based on being dominant and aggressive with Ponting leading from the front with both the bat and captaincy. AUS won't change that even though Kallis was the better player. Ponting is the better and more aggressive bat, Kallis' bowling doesn't add that much value to 2000s AUS.
Marshall was the best bowler in the world. Complete in terms of skillset and very very threatening. Again WI won't get much value of off Hadlee's secondary batting skill.
SA had good pace bowlers bar Donald too but no spinner even remotely close to Warne. Reckon he could do a great job (might even be captain).
2010s IND had a pretty solid middle order with Pujara Kohli Rahane. While Smith is a massive upgrade on Rahane, it wouldn't really help us much as our pace attack would still be poor and we wouldn't win away anyway. Without Ash, we might lose the home streak too.
SA again has good pacers, but their batting is atrocious. This is the easiest one of all 5. Ofc they will take Root. They'll win most of their home games still, and Rabada hasn't been great away from home anyway.

The Idea that 2000s Australia would give up Ponting is weird, a very big part of what seprated them from the rest was that most were dominant batters, Hayden/Ponting/Gilchrist always looked to dominate attacks and Ponting was the leader of the side as well, sure Kallis was a greater Cricketer but I'm not sure he's either better suited or would be picked in comparison to Ponting.

Kallis for Ponting in 2000s Australia is pretty much a no brainer to me. Think this whole "Ponting dominated" thing is overrated here. Kallis at worst was an equal bat, could form a great fulcrum to a lineup of power hitters and most importantly, an exceptionally well 5th bowler, something Australia were searching for in the 2000s, their own Flintoff.

Who will captain the side?
