Two guys with plenty of success against each other
I'm sure there's a parallel universe in which we talk about Dennis Lillee bowling in India with a broken toenail. What's the point, people will just say Lillee planned his whole career so he never had to bowl to Gavaskar in India![]()
How do you figure as they only played one 3 test series against each otherTwo guys with plenty of success against each other
Got Gavaskar only once legally though.....How do you figure as they only played one 3 test series against each other
Gavaskar in that series had 118 runs @ 19.66. Lillee took 21 wkts @ 21.52 in those 3 tests
They also played against each other when Gavasker played for ROW against Lillee 1971/72.How do you figure as they only played one 3 test series against each other

Ok, well Lillee dominated same as the Test series in Australia. In the 4 ROW "Tests" they played together, Gavaskar made 189 runs @ 27.00, while Lillee took 24 wkts @ 20.08They also played against each other when Gavasker played for ROW against Lillee 1971/72.
I also rate them both very highly and find it strange comparing a bowler to a batsman. Only because Lillee always performed better than Gavaskar when they played against each other, I go with LilleeNo strong opinion here as I don't think there's much between them as Cricketers, just voting for who I like more.
Although Lillee got Gavaskar numerous times in that Aus vs ROW 'Test' series in 1971/72, Lillee's delivery that got Gavaskar in the Perth 'Test' match still sticks out for me - rearing up off good length, little Gavaskar could do other than fending it off. They also played against each other when Gavasker played for ROW against Lillee 1971/72.
If you're responding to my post, Gavaskar said Lillee was the greatest in his 1984 book. Marshall was nothing special before 1984I think Gavaskar placing Lillee over Marshall might be influenced by some things more than just bowling...
In his defence, he was pretty racist to the Aussies as well. Remember reading when David Hookes died, he said something along the lines of "that's how you expect an Aussie to die really". Hookes died in a bar brawl......I think Gavaskar placing Lillee over Marshall might be influenced by some things more than just bowling...
pathetic individual. In his defence, he was pretty racist to the Aussies as well. Remember reading when David Hookes died, he said something along the lines of "that's how you expect an Aussie to die really". Hookes died in a bar brawl......
