Vinod Kambli 1st half: 9 tests 880 runs @ 97.77 Vinod Kambli 2nd half: 8 tests 204 runs @ 18.54
Yeah can’t imagine anyone not being able to maintain a 100 average. Pretty pathetic imo.

Btw still think Kambli is one of the most unfairly treated players of all time.

what to say about him tbh, someone bowled a short fast one at his shoulder blade and that was it for him.

Qadir and Akram have red marks on their career, Lillee on the other hand is a question mark at most on what he'd have done in Asia over longer sample sizes.
Akram has no red marks, easily a tier above Lillee. His 117 in Pakistan isn't a question mark, can't think of another arguably top 15 pacer with a series as bad. Akram and Lillee aren't close.

Sorry but Akram isnt even clearly ahead of Lillee much less a tier above.

And Lillee gets way too much flack for that series in Pakistan which is too small a sample to judge him and on wickets where even Imran was neutralised.

If you want a worse series look at Ambrose in Pakistan in 97. Took 1 wicket, was ruthlessly spanked by Inzi and co and was comprehensively outbowled by Walsh and Wasim. It was so bad he contemplated retirement. Worst ever series by a top pacer.

Overall way better record in Pakistan.

Yeah again because he got more opportunities.

But many of you seem averse to looking at the context of series themselves.

For example, Ambrose in Pak in 1990 played on perhaps the most pace friendly wickets in Pak history where everyone got wickets. And he sucked in 97 on traditional Pak wickets where he needed more skill.

Lillee only should get downgraded because of lack of opportunities in SC but I have no doubt he was skilled enough to succeed in SC had he more tests. But not so Ambrose though everyone here gives him a pass.

Lillee's reputation is pretty hard to argue against.
What impresses me most about Lillee is his sheer wickettaking consistency even after his pace dropped. It's very hard for a fast pace bowler to adapt like that.

He has three career stages, pre back injury, post injury and post WSC and was pretty much as effective in all three.

Contrast that with Ambrose, Wasim, Marshall, Donald, etc who saw their wickettaking decline as their pace declined.

Akram? I don't think he's even a tier above Roberts....

Plus, 4 innings where iirc he got sick for some and Pakistan were at the peak of their umpire cheating nonsense is not fair to judge his whole career on.

No one competing for a top 10 spot was nearly ever as bad as that, especially while not in decline
