CW's Ranking of Batsmen (Tests)

Ha ha yep, it was Harvey at 34 and everyone from Worrell onwards has to move down a spot. So Sehwag was actually number 40, and we're now voting for 41.

Only 1 player between Kohli and Sehwag. That's bit unfair but also shows how much Kohli's stock has dipped.

Overall average 47. Rubbish against NZ but averages 50 against Australia, and 47 against Lillee n' Thomo circa 1975-76.

Also good against India (average 59); so that's pace and spin both covered. Attacking batsman, nice bloke, great captain, what's not to like?

I'm torn now - if Smith and Sehwag have been voted in then there's no reason Hayden shouldn't be immediately. On the hand, Peter May probably deserves to have gotten in by now too, and at a personal level I really want Stan McCabe!

Then again, any of the other names mentioned - Chanderpaul, Inzi, Lloyd, Crowe, Greenidge - would all be worthy picks as well.

We're pretty much at the spot now where we could throw a bunch of names into a hat, draw them out in any order, and the list wouldn't look too bad.
