The conditions are lovely today. Bright sunshine and a flat batting wicket, it seems. After the initial moisture, it should be plain sailing for the batsman over the first couple of days, before the spinners start to impact late in the game.

The outfield is slightly slow, however.

Toss: Pakistan call HEADS

Commentary:

Shoaib Akhtar to start the match off, bowling to Thamba Mamesh. The last two opening overs he bowled in this series saw Mamesh hit him for six each time.
0.1 Shoaib to Mamesh: clipped away fine, and they'll turn for two - pleasant start for the CW XI.
1.1 Asif to Mamesh: overpitched and driven aerially past extra cover - FOUR runs, but with risk.
Asif has been off colour in this series thus far.
2.6 Akhtar to Moerk: short and sharp, and they've gone up for it! OUT!!! Moerk goes, but he's not too happy about it. He reckons the ball hit his shoulder there.

3.5 Asif to Mamesh: cutting hard... not much room for error on this pitch - FOUR.
4.3 Akhtar to Mamesh: oh dear! HORRID shot! He was in no position to play that hook shot and it's just gone straight up... easy catch...

Mamesh ct Asif b Akhtar 13
Balls 12 4's 2 6's 0

4.6 Akhtar to Cloete: he gets on top of it and pulled brutally for FOUR.
5.2 Asif to Goff: EDGED!...through the slips and to the ropes - FOUR! Lucky there...
5.3 Asif to Goff: EDGED AGAIN! DROPPED! That was a beauty from Asif and Goff couldn't do much there, but he's put down. Lucky again!
5.4 Asif to Goff: oh no! Another terrible shot, but this time it's the captain who has to go. Nothing more than a waft outside the offstump there.

Goff ct Akmal b Asif 6
Balls 6 4's 1 6's 0

7.2 Asif to Cloete: pulled to midwicket - FOUR.
7.3 Asif to Cloete: top shot! Glorious straight drive, and FOUR more!
9.1 Asif to Kearsley: he pushes at it and little bit of movement - CAUGHT! Not the most inspiring of innings there from Kearsley. He looked very uncertain... and the CW XI in all manner of trouble now.

Kearsley ct Afridi b Asif 3
Balls 7 4's 0 6's 0

9.4 Asif to Cloete: OUT! Oh no - PUT DOWN! Akmal has dropped ANOTHER sitter. Big letoff there...
10.1 Akhtar to Dauth: HUGE APPEAL!!! Turned down there... maybe hit him a bit high...
10.6 Akhtar to Dauth: what is going on out there?! Dauth played a loose shot and was dropped by Hafeez at gully. Incredible!
11.6 Asif to Dauth: PLAYED ON!!! The Webheads floundering in good batting conditions here. Goff looks a disturbed man in the pavilion right now...

Dauth b Asif 7
Balls 9 4's 0 6's 0

13.5 Asif to Camps: pushed back to the bowler - DROPPED! That was fairly simple in the end...

Umar Gul replaces Akhtar, who bowled 7 superb overs.
14.1 Gul to Cloete: NOBALL and wide off the stumps. Not a great start.
15.1 Asif to Cloete: DROPPED! Identical to the drop off Camps!

Afridi replaces Asif.
17.1 Afridi to Cloete: use of the feet and spanked over midon - FOUR.

Kaneria joins Afridi for a double spin attack.

27.1 Afridi to Cloete: paddled around the corner for a single - fifty. Good innings, despite a couple of letoffs. Crucial...

Cloete not out 50 Balls 71 4's 6 6's 0

27.6 Afridi to Cloete: LOUD SHOUT!!! Not out. That looked out, but not given, and that's lunch. Great session for Pakistan after the CW XI won the toss.

Lunch: CW XI 108-5
