Cricket, Lovely Cricket
101/5. This is quite dangerous still. We have to try and get a lead of 100 some how though it looks tough given the Aussie fight back thingie.

But ginger is showing a lot of attitude and giving it to the Aussies. The team is still looking up beat...

International Captain
What a way to start your career, Thomas. :D Fantastic. Let's keep this going, though, still a long way before the end of this battle.

Day 2 Lunch: Australia 4/78
After a very competitive day one, we head into the second day's play of this first Test in equally pleasant conditions. This pitch still looks good for batting, but the fast bowlers will enjoy its bounce and pace.

7.4 Kennett to Langer: short and wide and punished for FOUR! First sign of aggression this morning.

9.5 Kennett to Langer: too short again, and once more it's punshed. Great shot.

11.2 Kennett to Langer: short AGAIN! This time plays the pull shot to perfection. Not the place to bowl to a man in this kind of form.
11.6 Kennett to Langer: pitched up and driven through the covers with ease. Kennett missing out here...

Greg Thomas, this is your moment. Brendan Goff hands the debutant the ball and he bowls a few practices deliveries to Kennett. Hoy has a word with him and he's ready to begin his Test bowling career...

13.1 Thomas to Hayden: bang on target. Hayden on the move, but he defends that one back down the pitch. They won't want to let him settle.

15.6 Thomas to Hayden: SWIPE! Hayden just went across the line of that one and tugged it high and hard over midon. That's FOUR!

17.1 Thomas to Hayden: he shuffles across and tugs that one along the ground and it beats midon and that'll just reach the ropes.
17.5 Thomas to Langer: too short and he cut it away smartly past the diving point. Australia getting well on top here - 50 up.

18.2 Hoy to Langer: inside edge! DROPPED! Pickup makes a mess of it at short leg. That's the one they needed...
18.3 Hoy to Langer: KNOCKED BACK! Langer is comprehensively bowled by what is surely the ball of the match! That one touched down on middle and off and jagged away from Langer to remove his offstump! What a delivery!

Code:
JL Langer b Hoy [B]24 (56)[/B]
18.6 Hoy to Ponting: flicked off his toes and they'll charge back for a third.

19.1 Thomas to Ponting: CRASHED AWAY! What...TAKEN!!!! Hoy just settled into the unfamiliar 3rd slip position and he's pulled off a blinder of a catch! That's the big fish! What a great maiden wicket for Thomas!

Code:
RT Ponting c Hoy b Thomas [B]3 (4)[/B]
20.4 Hoy to Hayden: squared up and CAUGHT!!! What a lovely delivery from Hoy. 95mph and on offstump, moving away. Hayden goes! Australia in some trouble here.

Code:
ML Hayden c Goff b Hoy [B]20 (62)[/B]
21.1 Thomas to Martyn: YORKED!!! Thomas is beside himself! He produced a gem there and Australia really up against it now. This young Cricket Web XI side is on fire!

Code:
DR Martyn b Thomas [B]1 (5)[/B]
21.6 Thomas to Hussey: pleasant drive... and it beats Goff in the covers! That'll reach the boundary. Much-needed relief for Australia.

23.1 Thomas to Hussey: on the body - DROPPED!! Pickup can't hang on at short leg. That one hung up in the air for a bit, but he totally misjudged it. I suspect he won't be at short leg for much longer. Hussey is not a man you want to drop...

Hoy ends an excellent 10-over spell. He bowled his heart out and kept his pace up. He'll probably get a long rest now. Kennett is back.

25.3 Thomas to Hussey: well there's a shot! That's gone all the way - SIX! Hussey certainly sending a message with that pull shot.

And the moment this crowd has been waiting for. Neil Pickup, on his return to Australia, gets set to bowl his first delivery of the series. He's replacing Greg Thomas immediately after lunch. Just 7 wickets at 55.57 on his last trip here...
27.1 Pickup to Watson: a stretch forward and left alone.

35.2 Pickup to Watson: flipper! Loud shout for LBW. Not given there. Pickup not impressed, but he doesn't make a big deal of it.

36.6 Kennett to Hussey: EDGED! And DOWN! That was just in and out, and Kearsley has put down a sitter. Kennett isn't sure what to make of that...

43.5 Pickup to Watson: GONE! It was always on the cards, wasn't it... Watson never looked settled and Pickup capitalizes with a bottom edge onto off' and middle.

Code:
SR Watson b Pickup [B]12 (66)[/B]
43.6 Pickup to Gilchrist: OUT! What a horrid shot! Just a wild slog at Pickup's first ball and it's taken easily at midwicket by Kennett! Pickup on a hat-trick, and the dangerous Gilchrist departs!!
The CW contingent of the crowd has gone wild!

Code:
AC Gilchrist c Kennett b Pickup	[B]0 (1)[/B]
Hat-trick delivery...
45.1 Pickup to Hussey: tossed up on offstump and defended calmly off the front foot. Hussey denies him.

45.6 Pickup to Hussey: GON...oh no! That looked a certain stumping, but Mørk has made a hash of it. Oh dear! Hussey was stranded there. A third life for Hussey!

46.2 Camps to Warne: BOWLED! Nipped in a bit and Warne was caught on the crease. 7 down!

47.2 Pickup to Lee: DROPPED at slip! Cricket Web not capitalizing fully on this situation!
47.6 Pickup to Lee: PULLED away! That's a certain FOUR.

51.6 Pickup to Lee: Big shot! GONE! He'll be mighty proud of that. He's taken a wicket with his flipper!

Code:
B Lee lbw b Pickup	[B]10 (23)[/B]

Unlucky there, Mork.

Let's continue with the pressure guys. We really need to get Hussey - he can score a century from anyone batting with any wicket :S

Not the time to miss a stumping. Especially not one as easy as that. :(

Edit: Mind you, the bowlers certainly seem to be creating enough chances... :D
