Cricket Web XI in Australia
First Test - CW XI vs Australia
at the WACA

Light cloud overhead today as we get set for what should be a fascinating first Test between the Cricket Web XI and Australia. The pitch is quick and bouncy as you'd expect of a WACA surface, and we're all set to go.

Ricky Ponting made some controversial comments about the CW XI leading into the series, and for those alone, the rivalry should be intense.

Let's head down to the middle.

Congratulations to Thomas on his much deserved debut. :) Interesting to see Watson batting above Gilchrist, does he usually bat there?

Thomas in a baptism of fire, but he's got the talent to prove himself as one of the worlds best.

And it will be Brett Lee to start us off, bowling to Thamba Mamesh...
0.1 Lee to Mamesh: pitched up and driven away past midoff, great shot to start. They take one, back for two, and a comfortable third. The CW XI are underway!

0.3 Lee to Mørk: pushed into the offside and they steal a quick single. Mørk is off the mark.

0.4 Lee to Mamesh: FLASHING! TAKEN!!! Martyn takes a smart catch at 4th slip and the Australians are through! Not a particularly clever shot by Mamesh there. Inexperience and attacking nature showing. Lee pumps his fist.
Code:
T Mamesh c Martyn b Lee [B]3 (2)[/B]
0.6 Lee to Goff: SHORT and QUICK! Mistimed pull shot from Goff, but he'll get two for it.

1.4 Lee to Mørk: Square cut... that'll find the ropes... FOUR! First boundary of the morning.

7.1 Gillespie to Goff: Firm push. They've gone up for it. He's given it! Bucknore thought about it and he's given him. There was a noise there. Big wicket!
Code:
BJ Goff c Gilchrist b Gillespie	[B]12 (16)[/B]
Stuart Clark replaces Brett Lee in the attack. He'll start off bowling to Andrew Cloete on 1... 4 slips and a gully...
8.1 Clark to Cloete: Short and left alone outside offstump.

11.4 Gillespie to Cloete: BOUNCER! Hooked away! That's a bold shot and he played it superbly for FOUR!
11.6 Gillespie to Cloete: Now onto the front foot and driving square... he's beaten Watson... FOUR more!

13.4 Gillespie to Cloete: Flicked off the legs to perfection. That will race away to the ropes.

Brett Lee returns to the attack, replacing Jason Gillespie (7-1-24-1) at the Southern End...
15.1 Lee to Cloete: pushed straight and it beats midon... they're back for two...

Now with 18 overs gone, we'll see the first sign of spin. The great man, Shane Warne prepares to enter the attack. This should be interesting...
18.1 Warne to Mørk: paddled around to the sweeper behind square... a single.

18.5 Warne to Cloete: back for the cut, and DROPPED! Difficult chance to Gilchrist, but he should be taking those at this level.
18.6 Warne to Cloete: dancing down the track and taking the ball on the full... hit through midwicket... that's FOUR!

Double change here, as Watson starts from the opposite end.

21.1 Watson to Cloete: short and wide and CRACKED away for FOUR!
21.2 Watson to Cloete: and again! FOUR more! Just feeding him runs at the moment, Watson.

21.6 Watson to Cloete: turned behind square for a single. Fifty for Cloete. Superb knock.

AP Cloete 50 (49 balls), 8 fours, 0 sixes

Hm, probably best to cycle off now so that I can catch the end of the game instead of the start.
Cycle like you've never cycled before!

Warne may be in the attack, but we'll see him off.

Batsmen have something to look forward to if they let that mug Watson try to bowl..
