CW Decides The XI of the Decade

I'm considering tactically changing my vote to Ashwin here even though I genuinely do think it should be Lyon.

Thoughts on whether this is dodgy?

If you’re assuming every match is going to be played on the SC then pick Ashwin and just drop him when they’re played elsewhere because he’s bloody useless.

This is kind of why I voted for Lyon but outside the subcontinent Ashwin averages 38 and Herath averages 37. Not a lot to choose from on this front between those two anyway.

Been a bad decade for spinners when all the leading wicket takers are finger spinners instead of real ones

In my mind Herath and Ashwin are basically equal with the ball so will go with Ashwin for the batting.

Average schmaverage. Ashwin has zero memorable performances outside the subcontinent when India has needed him. Herath even when he's not taking wickets does a job by not being rubbish. Also, they're both fat but only one of them actually had the fitness to bowl a long spell and not get injured by the end of it. **** the stats.

Look, Herath somehow actually taking wickets is the only thing that made me concede he was Test standard. If you really make the forget the stats I'll probably end up saying Randiv was better than him.

Ashwin is literally the dumbest cricketer though. We need to consider cricketing IQ in this XI.

Ashwin only because he is the better batsman . People are completely ignoring the crap record of Herath in India unlike Lyon who proved himself here .
As a spinner Ashwin = Lyon >> Herath . Ashwin wins only as a batsman .

Yeah Lyon's probably succeeded in the widest variety of conditions but for far too long he struggled in favourable ones. Ashwin and Herath's dominance at home is too big of a gap to push given Lyon's subcontiental record isn't outstanding.

Herath's away record seems over-valued as hell though. I grant he generally kept things tight but other than Zimbabwe he rarely seemed a wicket-taking threat. Ashwin at times could.

Didn't we discover recently that Herath's record in Australia was surprisingly above average? That's a big swelling effort for a big man.

Herath bowled SL to a win in SA, and had the best series a spinner has had in australia this decade. **** the averages.

Herath averages 48 against India despite playing all his matches in Asia . How are you going to ignore this crap record against a team which is probably the best player of spin (I am not exactly sure if India is the best player of spin bowling anymore ) ?

I hold it against him when comparing him with lyon. I dont hold it against him when comparing him with a guy who didnt even have to face that challenge like ashwin. Doesnt make much sense to do so.
