CW Battrick Cup, season nine

Spitfires_Fan

State Vice-Captain
Team to play caves_beachcc:

Caldwell, Kepler (+), McLean (*), Knight, Grant, Bartlett, Hamed, Prutton, Lucas, Woods, Turner.

After flying out to Australia for a solitary match the last two weekends, the players (and the club treasurer) are relieved to be playing on home soil. The sun is set to shine (as it always does in Sussex) and hordes of school children are ready to stream onto the pitch and entertain the crowd with their mad Kwik Cricket skills in the break between innings.

Coco's Nuts manager Son Of Coco recently released preliminary details of a possible squad for tomorrow's big game against Oz Fan's XI...John Ashton, a regular feature for some seasons, has been dropped due to continuing poor form. Whilst disappointed with his sacking, Ashton said he understands that it's time to produce after 10 seasons of absolute mediocrity. He'll spend his Sunday off hanging out with his 10 children, each of whom was mothered by a different team-mate's girlfriend.

On a more positive note, the breach is to be filled by the black duck of the Coco's Nuts family - Colin Beresford. Colin (29) has only played two games this season and has been largely unimpressive. He's been harping on at training about an innings 7 season's back where he scored more than 10 at brokeback speed, and the coach has finally decided to let him have a run to allow this delusional fantasy to reach its natural conclusion. Given Ashton's current form, it's likely Beresford will only have to get his shoes and socks on the right feet and refrain from licking the bus windows on his way to the ground and he'll get another run next week.

The Team: Colin Beresford; Trevor Farrell; Dominic Greene; Shaun Nkosinathi; Rodge Hutchinson; Lee Howard (C) (Wk); Terry Wotton; George O'Grady; Johnnie Lock; Joe Chinnery; Gene Mabudhafasi.*

*Subject to last minute changes.

Some of the players are a little tired after their mid-week battles. Rodge Hutchinson ensured he'd remain fresh for the big fixture though by reverse-sweeping his first ball for 6 in today's 20/20 match and then promptly reverse-sweeping himself out of the game a few balls later. It's something we've been trying to get out of his game for quite some time, however Rodge represented Equatorial Guinea in the 1994 Winter Commonwealth Games at Curling as a precocious 5 year old and this seems to have affected his cricket.

Best of luck to Oz Fan's XI tomorrow. We've organised some seats for your travelling fans, they're in a neighbouring paddock atop a pile of cow****!

Equitorial Guinea aren't in the Commonwealth, are they?
Equitorial Guinea may not be...but Equatorial Guinea are recognised as participants in the 1994 Winter Commonwealth Games by a small band of supporters of the monarchy hidden in an enclave in the Northern NSW beachside towns.

Winter Commonwealth Games? Since when:-O
The squad will assemble at the teleporter to beam to Australia immediately following the the T20 match presentation where they will acclimatise by playing a 10 over a side game against 11 Random persons Invitational XI.
Having just scraped the warm up match against the Invitational XI by 12 runs thanks to 3 sharp run outs effected by Armstrong and a 35 ball 40 from Bissmire the team steps out onto the field for the game against Male models

I'm making this up my good man!

This may come as a surprise, but Rodge Hutchinson doesn't actually exist either. I'm flattered you found my report so believable though.

Made a good start against Oz Fan's XI...O'Grady taking two off the first over to have them 2/2. A run out sees them 13/3 after 4 overs. Need to prise out the middle three though to get stuck into the tail.

End of Over 4: 13-3, runrate=3.25
Mabudafhasi 2-1-4-0
Grahame* 10 (11 balls)
Livesey 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Remaketse Run Out 2 (FOW: 13/3)

Grahame has started well and Livesey + Brooks are both capable. Their PFL's are a little low so hopefully I can get a breakthrough.

Impey 3-0-14-1
Elmes* 12 (14 balls)
Walsh 3 (12 balls)

Last Wicket: Ryan lbw b. Impey 1 (FOW: 9/1)

Always nice to get an early wicket, would be stocked if I could manage to win this.

Opening bowlers being massacred hopefully the change bowlers can limit the damage,

Livesey 14 (24 balls)

Last Wicket: Remaketse Run Out 2 (FOW: 13/3)

Grahame and Livesey have consolidated for Oz Fan's XI. Mabudafhasi had Livesy in a bit of trouble the last two overs he bowled, but there'll be a bowling change now. Hopefully a wicket will follow.

Not sure my next two bowler's PFL's will allow them to actually do any good.

haha, I'll have to wait until the match is finished. I'm busy analysing data and sending the 12th man out to relay instructions on how to break this annoying partnership.

Finally a wicket, this one is going to be tight I feel.

Last Wicket: Grahame lbw b. Chinnery 78 (FOW: 141/5)

Got rid of Grahame and Livesey in the last 11 overs, they're moving along at a decent rate though. If Brooks goes we should be able to wrap it up fairly quickly.

Caldwell 10-0-58-0
Garcia* 3 (16 balls)
Elmes 96 (98 balls)

Going to head off to bed now.
Caldwell taking a bit of a bashing today, glad to see his spell come to an end. Looking at the rating of previous matches, seems batting is Sagger's strong point, so if we can hold them to around 250 we are giving ourselves a fighting chance.
