CW Battrick Cup (Season 11)

PY

International Coach
Getting pummelled in the final overs. :(

The reason I batted Rob is because I didn't have time to look at doing it properly. Full strength side out though so no excuses.

End of Over 50: 300-3, runrate=6.00
Clemence 10-0-65-0
Bhutia* 82 (79 balls)
Mcmillan 48 (37 balls)
Last Wicket: Shaw c. Clemence b. Ferrell 101 (FOW: 218/3)

That concludes what is just about the best batting performance I could have hoped for. Coming against miraculous/sensational bowling attack, and my fragile lineup... could have been ugly.

Well, PY, you will be happy to hear that you have now faced the members of my squad with full PFL. Bring on the stragglers... :(

Speaking of stragglers, Xolani best get out soon or else I'm going to steamroller his face with the heavy roller.

End of Over 28: 131-0, runrate=4.68, reqrunrate=7.73 (300-3)
Mulholland 9-1-38-0
Chanderpaul* 73 (69 balls)
Xolani 56 (99 balls)

Xolani's incompetence has played a big role so far. Had he gone out and someone capable of scoring quicker come in, this may be in the bag by now. Stay in, Xolo!

End of Over 14: 63-5, runrate=4.50, reqrunrate=4.47 (223-8)
Willetts 7-0-35-3
Kilkenny* 5 (10 balls)
Canning 11 (18 balls)

Last Wicket: Griffin lbw b. Willetts 4 (FOW: 50/5)

Willetts stepped up and Jeithoon got a couple wickets. Need the spinners to get Canning, reckon he could win it from here.

EDIT: Or we could the rest of side out:

W Sishayi to Nizamuddin
Big appeal... yes, got him! Nizamuddin trying to run that one down to third man has gotten the faintest of edges through to Clayton who flings the ball skyward with a yell!
14.3 W Sishayi to Farmer
Don't blame it on the ball shine, don't blame it on the great flight, don't blame it on the crease line, blame it on the googly! That's out!
14.2 . Sishayi to Farmer
Sishayi comes around the wicket and lets that one rip! Ball turned square and Farmer had no idea what to do with it. Fantastic bowling.
14.1 W Sishayi to Kilkenny
Oh, that is magnificent! Cat-like reactions from first slip to take the catch. They'll be replaying that one a few times in the studio.

PY

For goodness sake, he's faced 20 overs of bowling so far and got 75 runs....

And he's finally out! Now got 4 batsmen left who need to score at 10 an over. This one is lost.

Can't believe neither Dyke nor Mcmillan could get Xolani out, he's only a quality.

A very good effort this is by Dyke and Mcmillan... really piling on the pressure.

End of Over 39: 174-1, runrate=4.46, reqrunrate=11.55 (300-3)
Mcmillan 10-0-41-0
Chanderpaul* 99 (99 balls)
Clemence 1 (4 balls)
Last Wicket: Xolani Hit Wicket b. Dyke 72 (FOW: 171/1)

As Pete said... Xolani gone :( The crowd were on their feet though, what an innings by the youngster... 72 from 131 balls :D He has contributed more to our cause than any other. I am still not 100% confident though, Pete. It is a road and although I have Mullis bowling at the death, I also have Appleyard, who is a destructive 18yo with so-so PFL and attacking orders.

Well...

End of Over 46: 221-2, runrate=4.80, reqrunrate=20.00 (300-3)
Appleyard 8-0-54-1
Moodley* 20 (14 balls)
Clemence 21 (25 balls)
Last Wicket: Chanderpaul c. Shaw b. Appleyard 106 (FOW: 186/2)

Feeling a bit more confident now. The equation: 80 runs, 24 balls.

Phew, there it is.

Anchormen 3/300 beat Boggles 4/256 by 44 runs.

MotM: Xolani for mine, invaluable contribution.

Anywho - this takes me to the semis! For the first time in a while. Equals my best ever performance in the CW Cup (which I have done 3 times). Now I need a bit of luck in the next week, to 1) avoid Adam and 2) scrape through with so-so PFL. I have a massive OD game on Friday which I'll GFIing fo sho.

BARNES OUT
Meh. You would be the one with everything to lose. Sublime PFLs, versus my Friday fixture with a Div 1 FC side. I'm expecting to lose, whoever I come up against.
Not really. Despite your fixtures and whatever PFL (though my allrounder is nowhere near sublime, neither are a few of my other players) you're comfortably a better side than me in probably every facet bar maybe seam bowling.

I wouldn't sell yourself short... you have a pretty good side and on your day (as seen as against Dwyer, and maybe even as far back as the last time you creamed me) you are pretty hard to beat.

QUARTER FINAL RESULTS

Boggles lost to Anchormen by 45 Runs

Anchormen 300/3: Shaw 101 (99), Bhutia 82* (79), Gray 65 (84), McMillan 48* (37): Bardle 2/58
\Boggles 256/4: Chanderpaul 106 (106), Xolani 72 (137), Clemence 30 (31): Dyke 1/45, Mullis 1/61, Appleyard 1/70

(Well done Rob for ramming my words back down my throat with interest! I feel Pete dropped a bit of a bollock in picking a H+F, when the only suit in which Pete had an overwhelming advantage over Rob was his bowling, and in particular his seam?!? Though ultimately it was Xolani's turgid bout of constipation at the top of the order which sealed Boggles' fate.

Jaffna Jets beat Magical Ponies by 125 Runs

Jaffna Jets 223/8: Muralitharan 59 (71), Lucas 58 (70), Cramar 40 (45), Samarasekera * 29* (37): Potgieter* 3/40, Canning 2/42, Nizamuddin* 2/47
Magical Ponies 98 (30.2): Canning 34 (60), Terry 26 (29), Burger 13 (14): Sishayi 4/20 (8.2), Willetts*3/35 (7), Jeithoon 2/26 (7)

Have to admit, at 59/3 I wouldn't have given Chaminda a Scooby of getting a win, but that was a quite remarkable middle/lower order recovery, to post a pretty formidable total - Given the bowlers and conditions. Though that all said, Andy's batting was toilet!

Four Pillars and Poor Fillers lost to Central Districts by 179 Runs

Central Districts 260 (46.): Keane 79 (90), Shaka 78* (73), Dylan 62 (48): Wikus 4/55, Coburn 3/36, Everett 3/47 (8)
Four Pillars and Poor Fillers 81 (26.2): Beaumont 22 (30), Brinkhuys * 22* (43), Wilkinson 12 (21): Shaka 3/14 (6.2), Lambert 3/18 (7), Holt 3/21 (5)

The battle of the uber allrounders turned out to be a route! Shaka put some Viagra into Smith's otherwise flaccid middle order, as well as taking wickets at key moments. Coburn, whilst bowling well against his former teammates, probably ended his new side's last shot at victory with his golden duck. (BTW Keane very strange choice for MOTM?!)

Alternative XI lost to Asterix XI by 228 Runs

Asterix XI 267/6: Whybrew ** 85 (105), Wilde 66* (61), Ashton 34 (33), Lancaster 30 (40): Mcintosh 2/29, Shafilshuna 2/36, Vincent 2/48
Alternative XI 39 (12.3): Coe 16 (23), Vincent 9 (18), Handbury 8 (11): Lancaster 5/18 (6.3), Gradley 3/20 (6)

This looked like a match for forty-odd overs - Then I remembered the conditions, and the fact that it was Adam! Still, good effort from Alters to keep Asterix under 5.5 an over, another sign that perhaps there could be a vulnerability in Adam's batting against better attacks in future rounds? Then again, when your bowling's that good, how good does your batting need to be in any case?

SEMI FINAL DRAW

Anchormen V Central Districts
Jaffna Jets V Asterix XI

Good Luck! Trev

Sweet Jeithoon gets a rest before the WC and likely playoff. Though Murali is the one that really needs a rest.
