Batting XI vs Bowling XI : 5D battle
In a game of batsmen versus bowlers, it was never far-fetched to predict an allrounder emerging Man of the Match. However, amidst more high profile players, Sean Fuller was perhaps not the first choice.
Runs and wickets for Fuller helped lead the Batting XI to a comprehensive win over the Bowling XI, following on from a big OD win. The margin was 320 runs, but there was no shortage of entertainment throughout the match.
The game started with the batsmen slipping to 32/4 before classy innings from Butler and Young came to the rescue. The bowlers never got any such footing though, and an early collapse gave way to a total collapse to surrender a lead of 102 runs on first innings.
Hoping to further the quality of gameplay, Liam Camps swapped the top order to see Dubb-Lynch open with Fitzsimmons and Fuller play anchor at one drop. All but one batsman cashed in with some runs, with Dauth and Fitzsimmons the leading strokeplayers.
An eventual total of 475 set a target of 582 to win with a day and a half remaining. Though the bowlers were never really in with a shot, memorable moments were ever-present. Sangrah Bhatia played beautifully for a half-century, whilst Tom Halsey hit 11 fours in his 66.
Fuller took 5 wickets, whilst Mørk was belted for a century. The Norwegian wicketkeeper-batsman still accounted for the most memorable moment of the match. Bowling around the wicket at Dave Watt, he saw his Red team-mate thrust the pad at a ball pitching 2 feet outside his legs, only to have the ball spin into his legstump.
A 15-minute period of silence was observed around CWLand.
