As Bumrah is defeating Ashwin in the other pole, I thought who is considered the best bowler out of this three. So, who is the better bowler and who is going to be the best at the end of their career? (might be two very different questions but I don't care)

Bumrah is the better all round all format bowler than other two but he has the luxury of resting in home tests whenever he wants, thus making him fresh and fully available for the tough tours.

Between Cummins and Rabada, Cummins is more clutch, captains his side and has won ICC tournaments across different formats and hence he is comfortably better bowler.

Rabada has to deliver at big stage to be rated as the best, he was a disappointment in World Cup 2023 semi final, the best bowler should bowl maximum of his quota. He bowled 6 overs only as Australia chased down total in 47 overs.

When comparing players in Tests, away performance vs major cricket nations plays a huge role. Now in last 10 years, Windies have barely produced a 35+ averaging batsman let alone 40+. SL in their home conditions still have produced likes of Karunaratne and Matthews. Hence, if you look at performance vs SENA nations and Asian nations( India, Pakistan, SL) away from home, the averages are :-

Bumrah - Avg 23
Cummins - Avg 26.5
Rabada - Avg 29

The gulf is bigger to note now.

TIL missing games against relatively easier opposition in relatively friendlier conditions to play the tougher opponents in the tougher conditions is a "luxury"... :p

Given all three are fit and you can pick only one, I doubt there's a selector or captain around who wouldn't pick Bumrah atm. Guy is in his prime bowling intelligence-wise and has a skillset equal to or greater than the other two combined.

Jimmy is surprisingly low on the average, although his WPM is quite low.

Home conditions aren't friendliest always. Additionally, don't think of fast bowlers like a robot. Nobody is arguing if a player can perform against X opponent at home or not. We all know that player can perform against any opposition in any condition. He did it in conditions which mattered already.

Question is can he do this consistently day in and day out when he might have to play more tests per year than he is playing now or once he reaches 250 wickets + sample.

I thought Malcolm Marshall could perform against New Zealand in New Zealand but I was wrong.

I also thought Garry Sobers could perform against New Zealand in the West Indies or at home in both disciplines.

You never know.

Marshall picked a 4-fer vs New Zealand. Played only 3 games, we all know if he played more, he would have performed more.

You weren't wrong,he just didn't played enough at his peak to prove you wrong.
