Journeyman CWLander
Sven Oxenstierna has advanced to a third Grand Slam fourth round overnight after recording another straight sets victory. Facing the man who defeated him at the
Gerry Weber Open in Halle a fortnight ago, Oxenstierna continued his promising form from earlier in the week as he pulled through in three tight sets against Bulgaria's
Ivan Genov. The hardworking Genov managed to break the world number four's service on three occasions throughout the match, but toiled on his own as he managed just 48 per cent of first serves. The favourite worked tirelessly and finds himself as the second highest seed left in the draw after the fall of Blanco and Daneu. His
6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win sets up an exciting fourth round clash of styles, as Norway's
Kim Vollan looks to make amends for his fourth round defeat in Paris. Vollan produced some superb tennis in his third round clash as he ultimately ran away with a
6-3, 6-4, 7-5 win against
Pierre L'Estrange.
Local hope
Henry Charles will face his toughest task yet in the fourth round as Hungary's
József Boros awaits. Charles was in sensational form as he destroyed 23rd seed
Becker Haas within two hours; the twelfth seed dropping just four games in his
6-1, 6-3, 6-0 mauling. Boros also produced a dominant victory as he came from a set down to smash 28th seed
Morgan Carter in four sets
4-6, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2. In one of the most hotly anticipated fourth round showdowns, second seed
Jason Hall - fresh off another straight sets win against
Boris Denisov - sets to do battle with Italy's
Carlo Amato. Whilst Hall has been rarely troubled despite his tough draw, Amato has staggered into the fourth round after a tough third round clash with Thailand's
Atthaphol Sae-ul.
Finally, despite not playing a grass court tournament this season
Illya Altman finds himself within a sniff of the quarterfinals after a four set win over countryman
Viktor Vuriak. Vuriak looked like making the most of his lucky passage through to the third round (following his opponent's retirement) after taking the second set; but the world number nine outlasted his opponent
6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, 25th seed
Danijel Micic seems to have retained some of his old demons as he sensationally gave up a two set lead against teenage sixth seed
Darcy Cowan. Micic looked in a great position at 6-2, 6-1 and 2-0 in the third set, before the 19-year old powered back into the clash after two sets of awful tennis. Micic's calm start turned into a frustrated finish to the match as he was broken more than once in all three sets by a fired up Wyoming native; Cowan escaping with a
2-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win.
- Seeded players out: Morgan Carter; Becker Haas; Danijel Micic.

The seeds keep tumbling in Britain, and this time the men's doubles lost their third seeds as
Jefferson Drake and
Martti Korpinen fell to unseeded giants
David Champion and
Ivars Emsis. After a convincing first round win against local wildcards, the Twin Towers looked like continuing their good form early against the favourites. But after dropping the first set, the superior mobility of the third seeds seemed to be their avenue back into the clash as Korpinen sealed a double break. But the underdogs got the crowd going with some impressive serving-and-volleying to take the third set, before they avoided a decisive fifth with some clutch serves in a marathon fourth set tiebreaker to secure a
6-4, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(13) upset. They will face
Wayne Boyd and
Morgan Carter in the third round after the American pair advanced by walkover following the injury to
Rick Henson.
Elsewhere, ninth seeds
Heath Davis and
Jojo Mustard will have a tough task on their hands in the third round with sixth seeds
Andrej Konc and
Evgeniy Maximov awaiting. In contrast to their first round victory, the CWLanders were troubled by
Benjamin Hartmann and
Mischa Pasveer despite the decisive scoreline. The less fancied Swiss-Dutch combination plugged away at the more talented pairing and managed to bring up two first set points. But the CWLand pair saved both and did not let them close to repeating that in the second and third as they edged a
7-5, 6-4, 6-4 win. Fellow CWLander
Spas Delev, and his partner
Roman Dorogan, were not so lucky as they dropped a one set lead against
Ashim and
Seby Kumar. Despite dropping the first set, the fourteenth seeds looked easily the better side as they combined brilliantly at the net and baseline to control the play in their
5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 win.
Elsewhere, eighth seeds
Mark Harmel and
Yves Parmentier were upset in their second round contest with
Artem Krohmal and
Merab Shvelidze.
- Seeded teams out: Jefferson Drake / Martti Korpinen; Mikel Fosdike / Christian Mary; Mark Harmel / Yves Parmentier.

Marc Carretero and
Jefferson Quezada will contest the Reggio Emilia final after straight sets victories in their respective semifinals. Fourth seed Carretero had a comparatively straightforward victory against inform second seed
Sipko Wetzel; the Dutchman losing his first sets of the tournament as he crashed out
6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, Quezada had a tougher start to his showdown with fellow Chilean
Alex Rojas. Rojas only dropped the first set due to a late break of service, and never recovered as Quezada marched to a
7-5, 6-2 win. Quezada has dropped just one set this tournament - in the quarterfinals against
Felipe Pelayo - whilst Carretero has dropped sets against countryman
Javier Villaneuva and
Romel Solares.
Seeded players out: Sipko Wetzel.
