Western Dynamo vs Central United
at the Pickford Park

The 3rd vs 4th playoff saw the boys from the West cup up againts the guys from Central in was was expected to be an exciting clash..Things didnt dissapoint either..

After only 9 minutes the West were down to 10 men when Sean Bennett was red carded for cutting down United captain Daniel Smith..

As if that wasnt a crazy enough start, after just quarter of an hour, we were level at 10 men each when Darren Dubb-Lynch saw Red after taking a crazy swing at James Malthus in the area, Graham Poll had no hesitation in sending him off, and awarding a penalty..
David Kennett took the spot kick and made no mistake to put the West up 1-0..

The game continued to be very physical, but some class finally shone through when Daniel Smith produced a delicate chip to beat Andy Cameron and put Central back on level terms..

Four minutes from the break a lazy Cameron challenge brought down Matt Currie in the area and a penalty was awarded.. Smith stepped up and made no mistake to send the United boys in to the break up 2-1..

The second half started sluggishly with no side really taking the advantage. That changed after 71 minutes when a stray Daniel Rai backpass missed Cameron and went into the United goal... Suddenly United were up 3-1 and looking comfortable..

However the party was just about to begin..

2 goals, and a 2 red cards in the space of 3 minutes made the game alot more interesting..

First it was Central who made the gap 3 goals when a Smith shot cannoned into the net off the post to give Central a 4-1 lead and Smith a hat-trick.. However straight from the re-start the Dynamo pushed forward and Kennett was taken from behind by Tarick Weber, his 2nd Yellow seen him off.. The resulting free kick was swung in and met with the head of Kennett who put it in the net to get it back to 4-2...

Minutes later James Malthus made a searching run only to be brought down by Samir Louadj who also seen his 2nd yellow and was off. All of a sudden it was 10 vs 8...

Dynamo hopes were lifted in injury time when Kennett put away his Hat-trick to get it back to 4-3, but time had run out... 8 man United had hung on to take 3rd place in the Cup...

Graham Poll's lack of control the real talking point in the match..

BARNES OUT
Wow, what a game. Do these suspensions carry over to the season opener? If they do, we could be in a load of trouble with 3 of our 4 starting defenders out, and Burpe likely to get sent off.

Good to win but my keeping is far from good so far, been letting in quite a few. Only saved 2 that were on target.

First Half

A capcity crowd greeted the two sides as they were ready to fight for CW Footballs first ever piece of Silverware.

Kickoff saw the Fury attack right from the outset, and after just two minutes had the first real chance, when Owain Bale gave away a free kick for taking down Dravid.
Fitzsimmons swung in a dangerous free kick and it was met by Dwyer, whose shot beat Jasotharan but hit the post and deflected wide. An early scare for the Swell..
Seconds later the Fury had another chance when Fitzsimmons found Dravid from a throw, the Striker blasted a shot but it was well off target..

Dravid threatened again when he made a run into the box, but a great tackle by Matt Luff disposed of the ball out for a corner.. The Corner was defused nicely by Jasotharan...

After 6 minutes of play the Swell finally got an attacking opportunity when a long ball from Richards found Hutchinson who hit a powerful shot that deflected off a defender and out for a corner..

The Swell were slowly getting into the game and nice through ball from Fuller to Gough had Kearsley forced to make a challenge, it was a clumsy effort but harshly shown a yellow by referee Alain Sars of France..

A loose ball from the Swell on 8 minutes proved extremely costly when Markus picked it up made a beautiful run forward.. He hit a driving shot on goal that left Jasotharan stranded and powered into the net giving the Fury the lead..
The celebrations were wild.. An early setback for the Swell and now they needed to lift...

The Goal seemed to have knocked the wind out of the Swell as the Fury began to search for a second.. First a free kick from the edge of the area was hit by Dravid after a layoff from Hoy and was all but in apart from Jasotharans fingertips which pushed it into the post before a defender cleared the loose ball..

Jasotharan was at it again when a speedy run down the right from Kearsley allowed him one on one with the keeper, Kearsley tried to beat Jasotharan but the young keeper was equal to the task and saved the day..

A lucky break for the Swell when a ball from Markus to Dravid had the Swell lost, but a clumsy challenge from Borcic which should have been a card was waved away and play on, minutes later a square up from Sars when this time Mork outmuscled Dravid in a good tackle but was shown a yellow..

23 Minutes had gone when again the Fury had another super chance.. Markus found Clapham with a beautiful cross and the Midfielder hit the ball sweetly on goal with a powerful header, but again Jasotharan was the saviour with a acrobatic save...

With 10 to go in the opening stanza the Swell would have been counting their blessings when a shot from Dwyer looked like it was going over comfortably but a sudden dip had Jasotharan in trouble, the ball coming down on the top of the net..

The Swell captain had been kept quiet up until the 36th minute when he took on 3 defenders but came off second best when young irish import Patrick O'Shannesy stood firm to put him down. A rash challenge which seen a stern warning handed down. 5 minutes later Gough got the better of th irishman but a late shirt pull took the Swell captain down, and Alain Sars had no hesitation in showing the defender a yellow..

The First half was called to an end.. The Fury up 1-0 and in all fairness had dominated the opening 45 minutes.. The Swell with plenty of work to do but with the goal scoring talent in their outfit they had the power to turn it around..

HALF-TIME: ISLAND SWELL 0 - 1 EAST COAST FURY
