Seems to me the question is "who is the second best batsman ever?" and I'm not going to vote for anyone unless I can construct an argument whereby they are the second greatest batsman ever.

I can understand how that argument could be made for the following, although for me personally there are only two genuine candidates.

Garry Sobers vs Virender Sehwag

Sachin Tendulkar vs Ken Barrington
Kumar Sangakkara vs Jacques Kallis

Jack Hobbs vs Rohan Kanhai
Victor Trumper vs Steve Waugh

Sunil Gavaskar vs AB De Villiers

Viv Richards vs Neil Harvey
WG Grace vs Rahul Dravid

Only one unanimous vote, interesting. Already predicting the final 4 will be Sobers, Sachin, Hobbs, Richards.

Yeah, and only 2 matches that could be called close. It's funny your top 4 predictions are my top 4 seeds lol. Grace and Trumper are the darkhorses I think

No they are not. Most on this board probably think that Lara edges Border and Sanga vs Kallis the same. We don't think there's a massive gap between either group of players just that most of us think the same way.

Yeah a big gap doesn't necessarily mean the players are far apart; it could just mean most people agree that one is slightly better than the other. Sanga v Kallis was really tough for me.

No, certain posters I can definitely tell underrates a player like Kallis from what you read in certain other threads. Some I can name off the top off my head actually because I have read from them that many times.

I too rate Lara above Border though not by a whole lot, but Border deserves some votes imo given his accomplishments. Kallis on the other I think is better than Sangakkara though. Among players of his generation, only Tendulkar and Lara are above as specialist batsman for me.

I agree that Kallis is under-rated here but I don't think this result is a good indicator of that.

There are members here who tease me about how much I like Kallis and I didn't even vote for him. If anything, maybe you just under-rate Sanga. :)
