Cricketweb decides the best fielder ever

I think Viv is getting overrated as a fielder. I watched a few clips of his fielding before voting, and while he was good, he's not in same league as Gibbs. Gibbs was exceptional, almost as good as Jonty.
It's because of the WC really, people will always rate what gets stuck in their heads highly.

And yet you still have about 5,000 posts full of it in this place.
If you spent a minute to read how I go about generating fielding statistics you wouldn't make an ignorant statement like "you can't just search drop in commentary".

Oh I've read it, if you spent a minute to develop some objectivity it may just come to you how people can still consider your logic pretty thick. Mind you given your posting history, it was being pretty thick in itself to actually read it. Oh well though, they will just have to go in as some more wasted minutes of life I will never get back.

Thanks for giving detailed reasons why you think this approach doesn't make sense.

And yet another thread derailed by a Cricrate debate...

Screw Gibbs.. bottled it in the world Cup when it most mattered. Viv did the exact opposite with his 3 runouts.

Not really sure how to do this from here. How do you make a call. Anyway:

5- Symonds
3- Lloyd
1- Sobers

But they could go in any order. Young Lloyd was called The Supercat for his insane cover fielding. Symonds is the best I've seen and has the combo of anticipation, catching, strength and throwing arm. Sobers was good but more behind the wickets, and I don't rate that as highly.

5- Constantine
3- Collingwood
1- Solkar

The stories people tell about Constantine make me think he was a real freak in the field, great anticipation and a great arm. Collingwood was outstanding, I saw plenty of him fielding and he was on par-ish with Ponting and Rhodes around the point area. I don't know much about Solkar tbh.

So difficult to rate fielders you've never seen over ones you have.
