Who are some of the best cricketers who were capped at international level , but surprisingly was not capped in a certain format ?
Example _ Samuel Badree never played ODI cricket for the West Indies despite being a two time T20 World Cup winner .

Only one condition : The format had to be around at the time the chosen player was actively playing cricket.

It was his own doing though. He would have played tests if he hadn't gone Kolpak.

And Miller has a first class average of 36.32, so I'm not convinced that he'd have been too successful in tests.

Labuschagne had a worse FC average when picked for Australia ..Don't just look at averages it doesn't tell the whole story ..David Miller took up professional cricket when T20 was starting to take off at an incredible pace his focus was clearly on that gig for large parts of his career . . He made his international debut at 20 years old , if he was fast tracked into the side with the idea of being a Test cricketer , learning from the likes of Kallis , De Villiers , Amla, going to play County cricket instead of IPL who knows what type of Test batsmen he would have become ..What I have noticed about Miller is that he has an excellent temperament , that would have served him well in Test Cricket.

Neil Wagner never played an ODI for New Zealand which is a huge surprise.

Yeah, his white ball stats are modest but not terrible, but it does seem super unusual for the NZ selectors to have been so rigid (disciplined?) about not picking a genuine quality performer in one format in the other formats. We've had numerous players who were worse than Wagner in their preferred format and worse than Wagner in their weaker format who were nevertheless at least given a go.

Slats was a strange one. Watching him bat in Tests you thought he would be an absolute beast of an ODI opener, but he really wasn't.

Why? He was no good. Needed all the fielders in the cordon. Or couldn't handle the run rate clock ticking inside his own head. Either way, he played plenty enough for his abilities.

Yeah if anything he should have played less ODIs. Absolutely stunk out the place in domestic OD cricket for NSW too.

I'm surprised Mark Butcher never played an ODI. His List A record wasn't great but better than some other English Test specialists that were picked in ODIs when in good Test form (Vaughan definitely springs to mind).

Butch was the name I'd come here to mention, in fact.

As you say he wasn't a beast in the limited overs stuff or anything, but when yer Athertons and yer Hussains both played ODIs even when they weren't the captain it is an undeniable curiosity he didn't get at least a cap. Especially given he ticks both the "plays for Surrey" and "old man played for England" boxes selectors seem so fond of.

Andre Adams should have played a lot of tests, instead only played one and did pretty well. Colin Munro was averaging 50 in FC cricket but also played a single test. They went with Nicholls to fill McCullum's number 5 spot. Both Adams and Munro got pigeon holed as a white ball players but had better red ball records.

Munro is still much better than Allen in T20s too.

Not even a debate lol. Munro has t20 runs in basically every franchise comp in the world bar the IPL and has a gun t20I record. Allen's not been amazing at international level thus far and has only really had sustained success in the super smash, didn't do amazing when he played in the blast last year. Allen has the highest PP strikerate of any t20 bat ever with a certain amount of runs from memory though, so he has attributes munro may not be able to match there.
