Half time - Intraclub game a close affair
Willy Mammeth

The CW Power squad showed off their wares in a tight first half of the intraclub contest. The half was packed full of good signs as far as the CW Power club as a whole are concerned, the most encouraging aspect was perhaps Ash Chaulk's ability to play the full first half after his much publicised groin injury, sustained late one night in the off-season. The match started with a flourish of goals, including 3 in the first quarter from "Dangerous" Dav Richards. Blue went into the quarter time break leading 6.3(39) to 4.4(28). The second quarter saw Red's strong defensive unit clamp down on the game, this led to only 3 goals being produced from the quarter, 2 of them to Red. The score at half time had Blue leading Red 7.7(49) to 6.6(42), Kane Cornes has already asserted his midfield dominance at his new club, collecting a lazy 18 touches for the half. For Red, Blackman has 15 touches to his name going into the long break, McNamara and he have been the two dominant players around the stoppages for their respective sides, while Fuller has presented well for Red, collecting 7 marks.

2nd Half

3rd quarter
The 3rd quarter started in the same vein as the 2nd quarter - slow, stagnant football. The great beneficiaries of this style were the two side's half back lines, with Augustus and Crampton continuing to rack up the possesions for their respective sides, Loganathan also saw a fair bit of it mopping up on Red's last line of defense. Donald was throwing his body around early on and copped a loose elbow to the forehead as a result, forcing him to leave the field with the blood rule. The floodgates opened half-way through the quarter with Blue slamming on four un-answered goals, Red previously had the only goal of the quarter. McNamara and Cornes were instrumental in this, in what looks to be a dangerous midfield combination forming for the CW Power. The two, along with the rest of the Blue midfield, dominated the clearances for the quarter. Richards was again dangerous up forward in finishing his midfield's handy work, he snagged 2 for the quarter, taking his match tally to 5. Cloete staked his claim for the forward pocket spot with a terrific crumbing goal late in the piece. Blue peppered the goal throughout the late stages of the quarter. Fuller continued to present well, taking his mark tally to 10. He kept Red in the game with a terrific long-bomb goal in the dying seconds of the quarter. Some inaccurate kicking cost the Blues a bigger break at 3 qtr time, the score read 11.13(79) to 8.9(57).

4th quarter coming right up.

4th quarter

Red looked more desperate in the early stages of the last quarter, but could not convert on the scoreboard. They got the first through Gray, but 4 consecutive behinds erased some of the momentum gained from that early goal. Still, they were close enough if good enough. But they weren't good enough, Blue trampled on any hopes of a Red win by kicking the next 3 goals, taking them to an unassailable 31 pt lead with 10 minutes of the final term already surpassed. Both teams went through the motions for the rest of the match, with various positional changes being tried. Ryan Dunn excelled in an extended run in the ruck, he notched up 8 hitouts in the final term, with 7 touches on top of that. Nick Borcich was given a run at full back on Dav Richards, managing to keep him to one goal for the last term. Clapham was given a run on the ball, his hardness at the ball was evident. At the end of the day, the Blue midfield was just too dominant, led by Kane Cornes, who finished the intraclub match with 34 possesions. Cornes was awarded the initial ch00shub medal, given to the player adjudged best-a-field in the annual CW Power pre-season intraclub match. Fuller was Red's best, he amassed 14 marks, had it 21 times and kicked 3 goals.

Blue
Reddlapalli: Did his job, kept Garven quiet.
Gelman: Got on top of Mitchell in the second half, decent game.
Wilson: Fuller got away from him on the lead often, will learn from it. Kicked a goal after being moved forward.
Crampton: Was good rebounding accross half back, used it well.
Thomas: Had a good duel with Gray on one of the wings, servicable.
McNamara: Terrific game, dominated around the stoppages. Looks a star.
Malone: Didn't have the impact he would've liked, was well held by Dwyer.
Cloete: Showed he's a ready made crumber. Best of the small forwards, today.
Hutchinson: Created good defensive pressure on the Red defenders. Kicked a nice goal.
Richards: Great game, shaping up as a Coleman contender.
Dunn: Showed promise up forward and in the ruck.
Vincent: Was good at the centre bounce, struggled around the ground.
Cornes: Best on ground, in stellar touch.
Smith: Had a good first half, servicable in the second. Kicked 2 important goals.
Red
Loganathan: Did well mopping up down back, kept Hutchinson out of the goals.
Read: Richards was too strong for him.
Dwyer: Did a good job on Malone.
Augustus: Was given too much freedom pushing up the ground. Deadly foot skills.
Gray: Shared the honours with Thomas.
Blackman: Kept working hard all day, best of the Red midfield.
Clapham: Took some strong grabs overhead, hard at the ball all day.
Fuller: Red's best, just presented all day.
Mørk: Quiet accross half forward, warmed towards the end.
Mitchell: Showed glimpses in the first half, was well held by Gelman in the second.
Garven: Wasn't given an inch by Reddlapalli.
Borcich: Won his fair share of hitouts, good around the ground.
Chaulk: Faded after a good start, possibly fitness related.
Donald: Played with a lot of heart, ran hard all day.
CW Power play St Kilda in a practice match next week to conclude pre-season preparation.

Gun effort from Cornes, looks like a great pickup.

We having a pre-season comp, or straight into the main thing?

Solid hit-out for everyone there it seems. Pleased with my game, 2 goals, strong marks, and some time on the ball :)

Disappointing to lose, fairly pleased with my effort though and CW AFL looks like it is off to a good start as well.

Happy to start off with a goal, but would have like to have more of an impact. Hopefully improve through the season. Good win to the blues.
