Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Nah, if a bowler is even a little bit quicker than everyone else you are facing in a game, it ****s with the shot timing, regardless of the kind of bowler they are. And if you make your move too soon, the bowler can easily get you stumped(I know I can) and making your move just after release is really ****ing hard.
mate I've been batting at 11 my whole life and even I've never faced this problem

Your timing shouldn't be wrecked by a bowler being noticeably faster or slower than others in a game. If you're timing the ball well and you've got the measure of the wicket then the bowling comes the same to you.

I don't mean to be a dick but iirc shri played only tennis ball cricket so it's understandable

Nope. Maybe I just suck.

Whatever it takes!!!
Definitely on the days you are playing well, you will almost prefer the ball being a bit quicker coming to you as it means less fractions of seconds for your mind to mess up your instincts. :)

Certainly you'll prefer a sameness to the pace of the bowling, whatever that pace might be. But you shouldn't be thrown off completely by one bowler being a lot quicker or slower than the others. You might have a weakness against a certain type of bowling, but I'm not sure that's the point Shri was making.

But slow wickets often blow, from an entertaining cricket pov anyway.

i've got the fastest hand in the west (sorry burgeinho) and can almost flick and tuck all lines provided the length is good enough so it doesn't bounce above my chest, and i am damn good at it

i've got very long arms and they're steady and i can sweep or reverse sweep any line

but i've got a genuine problem with short wide **** outside the off stump

half of my dismissals are me trying to flay a short wide piece of **** delivery outside of and clanking it in to the stumps or up in the air

i'm susceptible to it especially early on (if i am trying to be aggressive) and guarantee that four out of five times if that was your bowling plan it'd work unless i diagnosed it was a deliberate ploy and stopped batting aggressively

because of my fast hands and good eye around the pads and stumps short wide **** early in my innings is the best way to get me out

in this way i actually prefer slower wickets because i have enough time to pull back the instinct to flay it outside off, and when it's in my zone the hands take care of the slower pace

Dauntsey's School today for the lads. Burgeinho's turn to sit out. Pics look beautiful. Glad they went in July when it doesn't seem to rain

sounds like you're weight is on your backfoot too much

So you're always in position to whip/pull/flick but can't shift it across to properly connect with a short and wide one

I'm working to correct that issue now and it kinda sounds like what's happening to you.

possible evidence to corroborate this could include the fact i regularly and naturally lift my front leg while flicking, flick off just one leg and have no issue at all... will look into it, cheers!

Maybe you have a really big ass.

Yea I literally do the same thing - flick to the leg and drive through the off both with my front leg lifted off the ground. My teammates helped me spot this issue, and the suggestion that I've been trying to work is, when in my stance, to make sure my back foot's weight is on the balls of my feet. That way more weight is actually on my front foot, and my backfoot is light and ready to move as needed.

This has helped me with driving and cutting on the offside, but I haven't had enough nets yet against proper bowling to say that it really works. Plus old habits are hard to get rid of.

T20 in Bistol this evening for the lads. An easy win apparently 190 odd played 70 something. Young fella made 29 off 14. Four 4s and a six which broke a window. Another fella got one which put a hole in a campervan next to the ground.

I don't think they'll be invited back
