Why does every thread require some useless commentary or bad joke? Was actually a really interesting discussion there for a while till a couple of useless chip ins.

Weird isn't it? Here, with a few notable exceptions, it is paradoxically the mods, staff members, and 'respected' posters with thousands or even tens of thousands of posts who are dragging down the level of discussion on each and every thread.

These puerile morons are quite clearly threatened by posters who have something to contribute beyond the in-jokes and 'witty' one-liners that pass for intelligent commentary on this board. Which is why whenever the level or quality of analysis threatens to get above their heads they are so quick to drag discussion back down to a level they're comfortable with by posting supposedly funny video clips from Hollywood movies or TV programmes, or still photographs with 'amusing' captions.

This 'humour' is so unfunny that at first I suspected it was all intended to be taken ironically. But then I eventually realised that the posters responsible for this ubiquitous thread-ruining graffiti could not be being intentionally arch, as they *never* contributed anything substantive to any thread; just one or two word 'jokes', video clips and photographs.

The mods and old-timers on here should be cleared out almost to a man, as they contribute sweet fanny adams and appear to possess the collective intelligence of two short planks. But until such a time as that happens I would just ignore their irritating contributions and concentrate on the on-topic and well thought out posts which can still be found here.

I think Anderson (though he is no Steyn :P) has excellent control over his lengths and in general is a far more talented bowler than most going around today. Johnson seems more the chuck-and-hope type. don't see him breaking out of the pattern he's established over the past 4 years.

That is just the way internet chat boards function, unfortunately. Older members with a ton of posts banding together to make fun of the newcomer. Online hazing. Though I've noticed smalishah likes you a fair bit, and I like reading your posts too. It's like drinking nice wine instead of cheap rum for a change - can't do it always but it's nice every once in a while. There is love, you just have to look in the right places :)

Don't get me wrong, I can more than hold my own against these trolls/hazers/what have you. Was just explaining the facts on the ground to someone who was asking.

Sorry mate, story doesn't relate. Soccer is built at international level towards World Cup's. Every Test match in cricket is as important as any other
If Johnson comes back, performs and demands selection you'd be mad not to at the very least consider him. This is a bloke with a Test 8-fer, 190 wickets and Test hundred against South Africa - not exactly a bit part player but a genuine match winner who had had a bad trot.

Not saying he will, but of he does find his confidence again he's got a few match winning performances left.
Hopefully the selectors have gotten as tired as I have of the 'match-winner' only performing every 6+ tests and being ****house the rest.

Would prefer Pattinson and some of the other blokes to keep their positions, unless Mitch comes out and swings it around on a good length with decent accuracy more than once in a blue moon. The hardest part about picking him is not knowing if he's going to take 6-30, or 0-150. If it's the latter then he fast moves from match-winner to costing us a match. It's not good enough, and makes it hard for the other bowlers in the team.

Johnson's never been overly consistent, and that's the part that has to change, for mine, before he gets back in the team.

Frankly I don't think he'll have to change much at all to dominate domestic lineups - which of course calls into question how much merit raw domestic numbers would have.

My "Johnson is the Australian Harmison with better batting" theory would go on to FDA approval if he did. For the last two or three years of Harmy's test career he would take a bagful of early CC wickets, the clamour would go up and we'd see articles extolling his virtues that featured words like "pace", "height" & "bounce", he'd be recalled and be predictably meh in tests again.

Both are essentially bowling savants; great when it clicks, utterly shyte when it doesn't & who one suspects couldn't tell anyone why they're bowling well when they do.

Whether or not the match is taking place at the WACA is generally a good indication I think.

It could well be. How about Adelaide? Averages under 26 there.

Mitch may well fire up every time he plays in Perth (although he's had two average returns to go with his two great ones), and it may be due to the conditions. His turn-around vs England was pretty remarkable, especially considering how ****house he was before and after.

Might have to just pick him once a year to find out.

Let's get the thread back on track crew. Everyone has said their bit, and there was a good discussion going on before the needless niggle.
