Thankfully knocks Worcestershire off the perch as being the team to succumb to the largest margin of defeat. Interestingly three of the top five biggest margins have been this season.

Amar Virdi has moved from Surrey to Somerset on a short term loan deal. Good news for Virdi to actually be playing some FC cricket. And, I think, good news for Somerset, especially given the weather so far this summer. But I'm not convinced it's such a smart move by Surrey to continue not playing a specialist spinner in their CC matches. Although maybe Dan Moriarty will get a look in, I suppose.

EDIT
Today's proceedings at Scarborough are simply the latest evidence that a specialist spinner might just be a good idea. And the bit that I watched was the latest evidence that Jamie Overton is throwing his career down the toilet if he cba to pitch the ball up. I thought he might be under instructions in his test appearance, but maybe he just isn't very smart.

TBF Lyth and Tattersall batted superbly.

Northants will be disappointed to have won the toss at Kent and only made 303.

Harmer taking wickets on the first day again. Pitch inspectors?

Yes they did. But we'll never know how they'd have fared against some proper spin instead of Jacks' gentle tweakers. And the fact that we saw Burns turning his arm suggests that Surrey had run out of ideas from their battery of RMF bowlers.

Elsewhere, heck of a collapse by Warwickshire against Hampshire.

Little from column A, little from column B I suspect.

I struggle to believe that the Overtons are anything other than higher order intellects, so it must be column B.

Jamie Overton’s action isn’t technically sound & he looks likely to drop it short when things go awry IMO

Ridiculous runfest at Hove. If Leics don't declare there's a good chance of two triple tons in the same innings -- wonder if that's ever been done before?

Some superb finishes today. Northants took the last Kent wicket with minutes remaining. Surrey won with three balls to spare. Who needs the Hundred?

Agreed, I can't see anyone stopping Surrey now. Very impressive to win at Scarborough after conceding 500+ in the first innings. Essex seem to be winning games while they have Harmer but will lose him for most of the rest of the summer.

As a Northants fan I'd be super happy if we're still in fifth place at the end of the season. Yesterday was the first time we have won a Div 1 game for 17 years. In the long term I hope we can establish ourselves like Somerset and Essex as one of the smaller counties who are serious contenders.

4/10 of the teams in Div 1 have only played 8 (Essex, Northants, Yorks, Somerset)

Hard to compete with Surrey when they scoop up talent from less affluent counties as well as having their own pretty decent production like. Certainly, I'd prefer any team other than Surrey (except Lancashire, obvs) win the CC.

To be fair to Surrey, it’s their home grown talent that has been doing most of the work this season. Atkinson, Lawes, Jacks, Patel, Smith all look really good and Moriarty can’t even get a game. JOverton was stagnating at Somerset and couldn’t get in their first XI. He’s been a revelation at Surrey.

Much prefer their approach to that of say Hampshire with their expensive bought in bowling attack or Notts who’ve poached all their talent from neighbouring counties.

That really isn't true at all, he went to surrey and stagnating for a year or too, but he was a fine foil for our steadier bowlers.
