could India break up?

Wales, under the control of English monarchs from the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284, became part of the Kingdom of England by the Laws in Wales Act 1535. With the Act of Union 1707, the independent states of England and Scotland, having been in personal union since 1603, agreed to a political union as the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Terrble idea. Not only are India not strong enough IMO, how would other countries like it if Australia broke up into 6 teams? They could break up into state teams and still have some reasonably good sides. But it would just be rubbish if they did. Go against the whole history of the game.

Scotland,Wales and England are completely different countries!!!!!!!

How can anyone say different, have you ever been to Wales or Scotland on holiday??It's a different place entirely!
Yeah, and I didn't need a passport, there was no border control.. Thats like saying "Los Angeles can't be in the USA, because its so different to New York!"

Compare someone from Scotlands passport to your own and you'd realize this alien being was from the same country!

Scotland was only allowed to even vote to have their own parliament in 1997, after 290 years of English rule, but in effect, England still rules Scotland. The Scottish Parliament is not a sovereign authority, and the UK Parliament could, in theory, overrule or even abolish it at any time. (thanks to wiki for that last sentence)
As for the Commonwealth games, they started as the British empire games, which Scotland has been a part of since bloody 1707.
scotland isnt ruled by England. Its ruled by the british.

Scotland were very much actively involved in the british empire.
the next british prime minister will most likely be a scot.

Whatever it takes!!!
Both sides will get whopped even by the Windies, I think. I mean, on a lively track. On the subcontinental tracks though, both sides will be decent.

just once again, it was IN THE FUTURE.

India will in the future have a staggering talent pool, fans etc. Its logic to consider that this will impact the game somehow

Its hard to imagine baseball in the US be just about the US national team. India will be, what, 4 times as big as the US.

But I guess it will just lead to increased domestic interest.

Separate North India and South India teams would be ridiculously imbalanced, considering the former has four domestic zones in it and the latter merely the South Zone. I reckon the North India would still be among the best in the world if the selectors are sensible like they are becoming these days, bringing in the real pace talent and young, athletic fielders like Raina. South India would be rather weak with Dravid, Laxman and Kumble as the main stars. Nevertheless, this is a ******** idea.

Man our bowling would really be shocking then. :p

not to mention having Tendulkar in one team, Sehwag in another and Dravid in another - India arn't even on top of world cricket at the moment so i dont think its worth worrying about at the current stage.

Australia now have a staggering talent pool. Shall we let them have two or three international cricket teams? Bangladesh "potentially" have an even bigger one. Maybe we should let them have more than one international team. It might speed up their progress...

A better idea would be to have a one-off 5-day match between the winners of the Duleep Trophy from India and the Pura cup in Australia.

It was still in the future. In 20-30 years India will be a giant country. currently its massive size is balanced by its poverty.

It was also not an idea, but a question (hence the thread name) based on what from the outside looks like some pretty serious regionalism. If thats not the case, it will probably lead to some serious interest in domestic cricket instead which would be excellent.

Perhaps it could lead to international competition between domestic first class teams.

There was some talk earlier of South having their own team in international cricket considering how unfairly the cricketers from South are treated during Indian team selection. Now if that were to come off, we might be seeing the following teams playing -

India -

Sehwag
Gambhir
Tendulkar
Yuvraj
Kaif(c)
Raina
Dhoni(w)
Pathan
Harbhajan
Zaheer
RP Singh

South -

Sriram
Uthappa
Dravid
Laxman
Venugopal
Badrinath
Dinesh Kartik(w)
Kumble
Murali Kartik - Although he plays for Railways, but he is originally a Tamil and will be eligible for South.
Balaji
Sree Santh
Firstly, there has been no such talk. Secondly, care to explain why you named the teams 'India and South' rather than 'North and India' ;) ?
