Bending the rules a bit as Gilchrist more then compensates for not having a genuine allrounder, if you consider that Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne & McGrath were the core six during the last Ashes, all but Warne under performed.

Or it could be because the remaining 5, Martyn, Katich, Clark, Gillespie and Kasprowicz were complete ***** during this series. I'm going for the latter

hah - Chappel is such a tool - very happy to see Boon thrash him in the battle of the Aussies.

Good mastery of the bleedin obvious - if you have six great players, and they perform well, you'll win more matches than you lose. Thanks professor.

for what its worth anyway, Australia's over the past decade would be:
Bats: Ponting, and one of Steve Waugh/Hayden/Martyn (wow 4 world class bats are better than 2!)
Bowlers: McGrath and Warne
Keeper: Gilchrist
Allrounder: Mark Waugh/Lehmann as second spinner, plus Gilly's batting, plus Warne, Lee and Gillespie's occasional contributions.

So having at least 9 or 10 truly world class players in your team helps you succeed!
