Convdb does not work HELP!!

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but I am unable to decrypt or re-encrypt the databases. Whenever I run the convdb windows gives me an error and crashes. It has only started happening recently and I use to use it all the time a year or so ago. If anyone knows anything of my plight, especially how to fix it I would be most appreciative.

Thanks!

If you've had a format of the computer recently, the original files you needed in the windows directory will have gone, so try that.

Need more details - what errors?
Sorry, it is just a windows message saying that convdb.exe has performed an illegal operation and will shut down. Then you have a choice of whether to send the error report to Microsoft.

Nothing else to say really. It is a new PC since I last edited but I can't think how that would affect anything. Just incase, I'll post the specs.

A64 3000+
Gbyte k8nf-9 mobo
corsair 3200xl
WD 80 gig sata (partitioned with ICC installed on D:/ drive, although I just move the database files to c to edit)
Windows XP service pack 2
ICC2002

That is all I think, so does anybody have an idea?

If it is a new PC than what cpr has said before is almost certainly the case.

Those files listed above are debug version of standard Microsoft DLLs and aren't allowed to be distributed. The problem is convDB was never compiled as a release version which is why these debug versions are required to get it to work. With no source code for convDB available to correct this these DLLs are always going to have to be explicity added to Windows.

That is probably your problem. ConvDB requires ICC files to decrypt the database. If you just copy the ConvDB.exe and the database files to another folder it will be unable to find the files. Either add the ICC directory to your path or easier if you are unsure how to do that only run convDB from the main ICC directory. Copy the db files elsewhere first for backup is a good idea. Also as Magpie requires convDB it too should also only be run from the ICC directory.

If you really want to run it in a separate directory to your main install make sure you copy all the DLL files in the ICC directory as well.

Convdb won't work

I do everything when trying to run magpie, but when i get the part where I am to type in convdb -d datap.db datap.db1 it says convdb is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file....

can some one please tell me what to do
