This case seems to highlight that Iain O'Brien was on the money when he suggested that more 'stings' were necessary to catch fixers. At present there seems to be little incentive to report and give evidence against fixers. Incredibly, on 'Veitchy on Sport' some are complaining that Vincent is a 'rat'. Unfortunately, there is a lack of rats so stings really are needed.

Vincent also described an ICL match against Mumbai, in which he said it became clear that both teams were trying to lose.

"This was a shambles ... it was embarrassing to be out in the field."

Even on cricket they were at odds, when Pownall had footage shown of Vincent batting in a game where he hit consecutive boundaries and said he had outraged Cairns by ruining a fix.

In both shots, Vincent moved to the leg side, dangerously exposing his stumps.

Pownall suggested he had deliberately scored the runs with outstanding shots, rather than trying to get out.

"You bring the bat back and you deliberately smite it," Pownall said as the video played.

Vincent saw it otherwise.

"That footwork was completely horrendous. I completely disagree with your cricket opinion on that," he said to chuckles from the public gallery.

"Any professional cricketer watching would say he was lucky to hit the ball."

As for the four, Vincent said "that's a pretty lucky outcome" as it streaked to the boundary off an outside edge.

"I was trying to play loose again to try and get out."

Geezus, I know (we think) we know what we know now, but that whole video package is just surreal. Just appears like everyone is acting and doesn't know when to be excited, how to get out properly, how to run properly, how to catch properly, it's just mind boggling.

This whole thing is really upsetting. I mean, Cairns being a #badboy, hell we all knew that in the 80's, but it was heartening when he then made the best of his career and, really, had a good one. This is a nasty post-script to it.

Just seems like he knows that he's guilty for sure but is struggling to prove it. Stretching his evidence a bit to make it sound more convincing.

Yeah Vincent's evidence amounts to very little given his credibility. It's also interesting that there's an email chain between Vincent and Modi in 2010, which in the eyes of the defence would give credence to a "dark forces" theory in which Modi or someone else has recruited people to testify against Cairns.

Again, McCullum is the key witness here.
