Chokers in the game today!

Slow Love™

International Captain
Isn't the term "choker" being a little misused in this thread? Being down when your team is being beaten is not choking, it's called "being beaten".

The South Africans are derided as chokers because they will fizz and crumble from winning positions. And because they'll save their greatest brain explosions and stupid mistakes for the biggest, most important games. It's far more about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory than going missing when your team is getting done.

If thats the case then why does Tendulkar hold the record for the most man of the match awards in ODIs?
What relevance does that have to his allegedly not being on of the top 25 Test batsmen of all time?

Funny that, but not even the most ardent of Australian fans on here (and at their most patriotic they have said some pretty OTT things on here) would agree with those 3.

What that they are not in the top 25 batsman of alltime??

I think they have the right to be considered at the very least especialy given some of the other players in that list who you have said nothing about.

If you are saying that they are not as good as Tendulkar then thats ok.

Or though by the time Ponting retires he will be an alltime great given he maintains roughly the same form he has had over the last 2-3 years.

It's his list of 25 all time greats who are better than SRT.

Ponting I would agree about in the top 25 of all time when his career is over - possibly not just yet though. Waugh as well would be up there, but Hayden I fear not.

amazing stats those....yet he has never won a game( let alone a series) outside the sub continent for india for the last 10 years. IMO tendulkar is a good player thats it....but for people in india to make him out to be like a cricketing god is just ridiculous. IMO he wouldnt even make the list of top 25 test batsman in the history of the game.
The critical element in that quote is "IMO". Your opinion seems deluded at times, such as in this occasion.

I think you'll find many more Indians than non-Indians who think Tendulkar's not all he's cracked up to be. In fact, in my discussions of cricket, all the people who dislike Tendulkar and think he's not really that good are Indian! Non-Indians love the guy!

Would that be a class/caste thing?
(pardon my ignorance of Indian culture)

I have no idea what you mean. I think Indians of all classes and castes think Tendulkar to be overrated and overhyped. Similarly Indians of all classes and castes think Tendulkar to be wonderful.

Told you I didn't know what I was talking about.

Is it a regional and/or tribal thing, then? Do people from Bombay think more of him than people from Calcutta ?

Oh I see what you're saying now.

No, I think Tendulkar is one of those national icons that really transcends regional identity. So someone from Chennai is equally as likely to like or dislike him than someone in Delhi! Although I suppose since he is from Mumbai, he will be more popular there than elsewhere.

Average isn't the be-all and end-all though.

The current era has a lot of high averaging batsmen because the game is becoming progressively more batsman friendly.

Who is the Chocker

Tony Blade said:
Umm. Well, in some cases a player may just get a really really good delivery.
I think if someone is to consider himself a chocker then he should be able to plar any kind of delivery since chockers are good.

With a 'winning' average of over 70, who in the world says he doesn't 'win' games for India?
Look how bad he overall did in Pakistan. Before coming to Pakistan he said he has found the solution to overcome Shohaib's bowling and look what happened. Shohaib is the one who got him ou in likr 2 odi's. He didnt score runs at all in Pakistan. I mean for India Irfan Pathan did a good job in bowling and Saruv I guess did alright.
