haha Ponting is the best batsman i've seen in my lifetime 1990 - so although i havent seen macartney play i would feel comfortable having ponting bat for my life so he'll do for me

I really don't know. I am just not able to tell how good keepers were in the early days. Or how refined the keepingtechniques hadbecome by when.

Its easier to track the evolution in batting than it is in bowling.

Clearly Blackham was head and shoulders above anyone within a fairly long period either side of himself (careeerwise) as a keeper. This is a good standard by which to measure sportsmen - how they compare with their peers and how far above the standards prevailing in international sport they were.

I think Healy has more competetion around the globe .

By that criteria I would go Blackham.

One can cite other criteria in Blackham's favour but that is not necessary I think.
