Changing batting hands

Hi everyone

Since its the winter here in New Zealand, i have a whole heap of time to practice my cricket. One thing that i have wanted to try for a little while is try batting left-handed instead of right-handed. Before anyone gets up in arms, im ambidextrous to a certain extent (can write left-handed ). Is there any drills or tips/tricks you could contribute. Im a batting specialist coming in at number 4-5. Personally i think i face spin best if that helps with anything.

Cheers

Well, I don't know much about the drills and stuff but I wouldn't advise this change. Because if you change from right to left, your bottom right hand will become your top hand and your likely to find it more difficult in playing cross-batted shots due to your top hand being right. So this can give your opponent an unfair advantage if they opt to bowl short to you thus forcing you to play shots like the pull, cut and hook which you may find more difficult.

Dunno if this matters or not, but im always getting in trouble with the coach because my bottom hand when batting right handed is the far more dominant one, leading me to hit the ball in the air when i shouldnt. But if the right hand then became my top hand when batting left handed, because it is considerably more dominant than the left, shouldnt that be a good thing?

I used to be same when I first started playing cricket but eventually my left hand became more stronger and thus it was my dominant hand. All you need to do is practice regularly, well that's what I did and still do. I practice once a week, every week. I have been doing this for about seven years...
