Changes to England Team in Next Match Onwards

Where does Owais Shah rate in terms of England selection these days? Is his England career finished?

I know it's only T20 cricket, but he's been one of the best players in the domestic Big Bash here which made me think of him and noticed he hasn't played for the national team since 2009.

He just didn't cut the mustard in Tests. He's always had problems with his fitness - gets cramps a lot causing him to retire hurt - and his running between the wickets is the worst I've seen of any England batsman. Shame really, there was a good chance for him to nail a slot for himself back when he got his chance but I'm pretty certain he'll never play for England again.

He was better in ODIs but the same problems were still there and he never seemed to score particularly quickly, or prolifically.

Interesting to know, a shame given his very impressive first-class record.

Thanks :)

Think he's about 33 now Shah so unlikely they'd turn back to him. Still a more than competent performer in County cricket though he's not excelled in the County Championship, his one-day form has been pretty consistent mind.

Remember watching him in a Test against the West Indies at Lords, he looked a right bag of nerves, he had that twitchy style about him, it was only his second Test.

I don't know what happened to Shah tbh. He should have been in the ODI team at least...He had a very good Champions Trophy 09...Kind of disappeared after that.

says a lot about how bad australia were that we allowed strauss to score a ton against us
Australia have a much stronger and formidable side now. With bowlers such as Cummins, Starc and Pattison still to return.....bring on the poms! What Pakistan has now achieved, will be nothing like Australia will dish out to the English team. Can't wait.:laugh::laugh:

Yeah bring it on, your batting is worse than ours so will be fun watching 5 tests over in 3 days.

Clarke, Ponting, Warner, Hussey are batting well. Hopefully we can continue and build a huge innings with our top batsmen and then the bowlers take over for a 3 day result. Sounds g:laugh: :laugh:d

Warner 1 big score against that Indian attack and rest all failures is batting well is he?

Can't wait to see him fail against Broad and Anderson. Seeing as our problems are against spin and you only have Lyon then we should be fine for some big scores like last winter. urn will remain in England hands for both the next 2 series of that i have no doubt.

OT but I reckon Warner will be fine against Broad and Anderson. Might get out early, but might smash them around a bit too. He has an extraordinary eye and hands, and isn't troubled by seam movement as much as you might expect from someone who plays like him.

Swann, however...

And no, your problems are against quality bowling full stop.

Interesting point, actually.

Worth noting here that Bell missed the whole of the Pakistan series in 2010, which was arguably the last really decent attack we faced and it was probably quite a good career move that he did.

Only really Trott, Broad and Prior emerged from that series with (batting) reps enhanced and (hey!) they're the same chaps who've stood up this time too (plus Cook).

I think England just decided to look to the future. A year later it looked like a great move as we won in South Africa, won the World T20 and beat Australia and Pakistan at home.
