Just watched a replay of the Otago v Perth game. I enjoyed Otago's "attack at all costs" attitude to their batting.

In qualifying for this tournament, they earned the right to be aggressive.

JimmyGS has more potential with the pill than he's given credit for imo.

I didn't realise he had as much pace as he's shown. Before he made his debut in South Africa earlier this year I thought he was that 128-132k tops kind of guy, and given he doesn't exactly move the ball around a lot didn't think much of it. But he was mid 130's in South Africa (5K's on McClenaghan for example) and here he's been topping 140, I've seen him hit 143 a couple of times. He's got an extraordinary amount of talent with the willow but he's still a little way of where he could be with that. Big time future for New Zealand though.

Yeah he has no doubt got the talent of a top all rounder in the making. I would like to see him have another full season of Domestic cricket under his belt before he becomes a regular nat player. Same as Anderson, but we are in this gap of having no all rounders atm. Ellis has been tried but he will never be the answer. We have plenty who bat and can bowl some mediums, but nothing that you would trust to get in 5 overs + a ODI.

The Lions badly missed Neil Mac's experience in the middle order and Chris Morris' all-round ability last night.

They also need to stop promoting sloggers like Viljoen and get Jean Symes in early instead. Proper batsman, can carry on and can get an influential score.

But in saying that, some good experience for younger players. For example Bodi has no real future so its good to see them stick with young van der Dussen.

Tahir should come in for Tsolekile for the next match, wet- ball permitting.

Viljoen while expensive showed he has pace and raw ability. Only 4 balls in his whole spell under 140 and regularly in the hight 140's and Tsotsobe looked leaner and had the best rhythm I have seen him have in a long time.

I am watching highlights of Otago v Perth. Did Paris get two wickets with the first two balls of his career? Or am I missing some context that highlights commentary has cut out?

Edit. Internet is my friend. Second t20 match of his career, but didn't bowl in first one as abandoned (but with a toss, so counts as game?)

Musical Barrage At Basin

Canterbury's Shell Cup team is likely to face a verbal and
musical barrage of equal intensity to the cricketing pressure
created by Wellington in today's final at the Basin Reserve.

In the past three weeks Martin Devlin has been the voice of
Wellington cricket's new entertainment package which has had the
crowd in stitches and left visiting teams fuming.

Devlin combines carefully selected songs and tongue-in-cheek
comments over the public address system intended to ensure Shell
Cup cricket can compete with other entertainment on offer.

However, that approach has inspired complaints from the likes of
New Zealand and Canterbury captain Lee Germon, Jeff Wilson, Otago
coach Vaughan Johnson, and most notably Central Districts captain
Mark Greatbatch during the Wellington-Central Districts match.

Devlin, who has the support of Wellington cricket chief executive
Rodney Moore, said players were being precious.

As Greatbatch strode to the wicket, Devlin noted over his booming
speakers that the Kiwi vice-captain had struggled to score runs
this season. Then he played the theme from "Mission Impossible".

Greatbatch made offensive gestures and mouthed obscenities to
Devlin when he was dismissed. Greatbatch then made a heated
complaint to Moore.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Christopher Doig has
investigated and will not take action.

Devlin, a breakfast radio announcer with Channel Z, said
Wellington's opponents in the Basin final would know they were
not on their own turf.

"Canterbury is in for a rocket. We want to make sure that they
know they're playing away from home."

Songs chosen by Devlin and promotions company organiser Nick
Mills include "Get A Haircut" for Chris Cairns, "You're So Vain"
for Adam Parore, and "Smoke On The Water" for Matthew Hart, who
was one of three cricketers suspended for smoking cannabis while
on tour in South Africa.
