Cairns, on the other hand, averaged high 20s over his entire career, even though for a lot of that time he was bowling at below 100% capacity due to injury.
Are you implying that this wasn't the case for Flintoff?

Nah don't agree. Slips are extremely important in Tests; a good arm's just a bonus really. I actually factor in slips fielding when selecting teams.
Yeah, same. Slips are such unsung heroes. Way more important in tests than the next most important fielding position. Have argued the same in favour of Jacques Kallis before.

Cairns wins in stats. Cairns was a better batsman considerably. They were quite similar bowlers and I think it would be fair to say there wasn't a heck of a lot between them. Both were equally reliable in the field. My vote goes to Cairns.

Cairns has been one of the few genuine all-rounders of the last few decades.
