Agarkar was run out in a weird state at 106/6- he miscued a shot, then practised the shot to get it right- and in that event, gloveman Gautam ran him out. Agarkar was run-out, but stood his ground, asking if the ball was dead. That's caused a little controversy out there now.

Anyone got any highlights for this one, quite interested to see how R Vinay and Mithun bowled.

The Mumbai fielders have put in a lot of effort, even on a bad outfield. Spinners Ramesh Powar and Iqbal Abdulla in particular dived and rolled to stop the ball- while Iqbal wasn't able to save a boundary, Powar's dive made it a dot ball.

Karnataka have been in dire straits, at 76/6, with several deliveries left or played out for no runs. That's had its impact on the batting, as they've been dreadful today. Salvi in particular was so tough, he was going for a little more than one run an over, and was spoken of as a West Indian fast bowler (from their heydays, of course) in action. All the seamers got good carry, and the ball kept thudding into the keeper's gloves. Even Nayar, at under 120k, was moving the ball neatly.

What do you make of this? While many praise the curator for preparing a pitch that favours the bowlers so much, I'd say this suggests how weak the current crop of bowlers is. They seem completely hapless on a flat deck, even when many games, international and domestic, are played on flat decks. We hear so much criticism of Indian batsmen being flat track heroes, but not much is said about the bowlers, who seem to be mere targets on flat decks. The batsmen, whose quality is proven, have adjested well to slightly dicey tracks, but the inverse hasn't happened with the bowlers.

So are Mumbai missing the Master Blaster, an old hand as well as some proper batsmen.

Here's an article on Vinay Kumar on the back of his recent exploits in Ranji. He's had a hard time, consistently performing, yet ignored for younger, apparently faster, alternatives. At least he's taking some advice seriously, and working on other aspects. On form, he should be a lock in the Indian ODI and T20 side, but seems to miss out.

Difference being that Dravid played almost all games in this tournament and was indeed the backbone of many an innings while SRT did not play even a single one.

Some interesting quotes from the Cricinfo posters
Tejas Jani: "I really want the curator of this pitch to be the head curator of Indian curators. He made a beauty. Nice pitch and good for test cricket!! Fed up with the high scoring tests and ODIs"

"Kulkarni may be playing one of his most memorable innings.... more important than some of his bowling spells. With match like this who wants to follow ODI / T20???"

"Seeing the "most interesting Ranji match ever" and all the Mysore Masala vs Vada Pav comments.. I realize that some newfound Karnataka "fans" at this stage are but assured. 309 at this stage is already an uphill target and the positve intent that was missing before is paramount in the 2nd innings, if they are to make a match of it. As a Bangalorean, I wish them all the best. For the real "Best Ranji ever" fans.. remembering Bengal's counter attack against Mumbai in the 2nd innings ( esp the way they treated Zaheer) in the 2007 final, could be the inspiration.. All the best Dear Robin, play your game.. "

"My most memorable Ranji final was Mumbai v Haryana at Wankhede ( i guess year was 1989/90)where Mumbai lost with narrowest margin ( few runs) as Vengsarkar was stranded at non strikers end when the last man got out. I hope this one comes close to that with result just reverse:)

"Will the Mumbai innings fold soon?'..plz dont use words like this and jinx karnataka." Hmm.....
Clearly, a lot of interest in these games- these fans are more interested in this match than the ODIs in Bangladesh.

Your thoughts on Kulkarni's innings? He's played smartly on what appears to be a slightly dicey wicket, where specialist batsmen have failed. Mumbai anyway have few.

Watch this name- Manish Pandey. He's score a 50 in the final innings of this event, and may just win the tournament for his team. He's got good technique, but scores at a very brisk rate. A very late find of the IPL, he's the only other T20 centurion in India. Now he's done well over four days, although questions may be raised if he's into T20 too early.

There are several comments on the Ranji final scores, but you'd try hard to find any on the Ind/SL ODI scorecard.

Mumbai won a thrilling game by merely six runs! This match has generated tremendous interest on the internet, with comments regularly coming to Cricinfo, and news channels covering the game after it ended. Times Now's Boria Mazumdar thinks of this as a fantastic advertisement for FC cricket, and more so, domestic cricket- it was played to a packed ground cheering the domestic players.

It is good to hear that domestic cricket is on the way up. I could only stream an over or two over the internet as I got the link on Day 5 just before I had to leave for school. Got to see Agarkar bowl an over of pretty probing swing at around 135kph and Salvi work away at 125kph. I didn't really see it in the IPL, but Salvi really does have a Mcgrath-esque bowling action, just lacks the height and strength to pull it off quite as convincingly. Looks like it was a good game between two strong teams, but in the end, Kumar and Mithun were outperformed by the more experienced Agarkar and Salvi, as well as Dhawal Kulkarni's match winning knock.

It is interesting to look at the factors which sparked interest in a domestic game. It was a four day game, rather than an OD or T20, which I do not think can generate nearly as much interest at the state level. The pitch was a result orientated one. The level of the two teams was high, with a strength lying in the bowling rather than the batting line ups. And finally, it was a final, and so much was clearly at stake. It is a sign that domestic cricket can flourish, even with the big guns away on ODI/Test duty, but is often treated apathetically by fans, bored with flat pitches, poor bowling and matches which appear to have little at stake in the foreseeable future.

The Duleep Trophy is on already. At the end of day one, Central were at 150/3, with fifties from Kaif and Raina.

Here's a page on the 09-10 Duleep Trophy, with one match done. The 'quarter' has finished as a draw, with Central getting the lead. Kaif celebrated his Kings XI Punjab call-up with a double ton, but not an ideal one for T20. Manoj Tiwary, on the other hand, finished a rapid century, with three sixes, which may help the Knight Riders.

There was a little controversy here, as the Orissa association issued a show-cause notice, asking why no Orissa players were in the XI, out of the three (or so) picked. Dire. This match wasn't covered by a TV channel, so we don't know what happened there.

The West Zone squad looks very impressive, very strong and balanced. North Zone may be offset a bit by the lack of an all-rounder, while South have rewarded the Ranji performers.

For viewers in India- catch Central vs South on Neo Sports. From the selections, South and East look like they can make the finals, at least on an innings lead.

The game was initially low-scoring, with both Mithun and Vinay exerting a lot of pressure on the batting. They snared two early wickets with the pressure, and then that of Tanmay, who looked compact and neat when he played his bit, only to throw it away with a swish outside off, caught at slip. The slips were very active, notably Arun Karthik, who plucked three really sharp catches, which should be a lesson to some of India's lesser fielders, as well as one on the value of the slip cordon.

Kaif started with neat drives, finding the gaps, but eventually, started going over the top with cross-batted shots. He didn''t get too much elevation in any of his attempts. Wickets fell regularly until Piyush Chawla, now a recognised batsman, played a good hand, scoring 72 till end of the day. He hit a few sixes, and kept the scoring rate healthy, forming a good partnership with Kaif. After Kaif was dismissed, Praveen Kumar played several risky, attacking shots very much like Shahid Afridi, or the Praveen Kumar before ODI debut.

Vinay Kumar and Mithun took three each. Neither were fast, but they were quite aggressive, and hit the deck quite hard. That helped exert pressure and earn some wickets. The more Vinay bowls, the more the reason he should get a national call-up for the South Africa series.

We're getting live coverage on Neo Sports (Green) with detailed descriptions on the DOMESTIC option on this site, but cricinfo has no live score of the game. Vinay Kumar bowled another short delivery, catching RP Singh by surprise, as he played it on to short-leg.

In the SZ first innings, both Mukund and Uthappa barely got off to a start, but were snared by Praveen Kumar. Good seam position, little movement, good line, and Mukund was trapped. Uthappa, though, has himself to blame, flashing outside off and edging to Kaif in slips.

The graphics and discussions indicate that Arun Karthik has got a good average, but has struggled to convert the scores of 50 to 100. In comparison, Badrinath has gone past 50 five times, but three out of five have been converted to centuries. This should be considered by Krish and group when the team against SA is picked.

Praveen Kumar ripped through the top five of South Zone, leaving them at 87/5, with a little help from the rest. Sanjay Bangar bowled tight, gave nothing away, until Ashwin got stuck into him and stroked his way neatly to a quick 50. Chawla's been largely ineffective till now. Batsmen from both teams have a problem with the bounce on the Green Park pitch as well as the Kookaburra ball.
