Brett Lee in ODI's

I heard from somewhere (correct me if I am wrong) that Brett Lee has the third best bowling strike rate of all time. I was slightly surprised at first in must be said. It made me appreciate what a wonderful ODI bowler he really is.

Out of interest does anyone know who Number 1 and 2 are?

Just checked cricinfo. Stike rates
Shane Bond - 26.8
Brett Lee - 28.2

So Bond is either 1 or 2 which is hardly surprising given his tremendous start to his career but still very impressive. Here's hoping he makes a successful return from injury.

Who is the other player though? I am going to take a guess and say either Akram or Younis. I will go with Younis.

I heard the commentators mention it last night, and the two ahead of Lee had both played less games (by a fair bit) than what Lee had, and they were talking about how remarkable Lee's figures had been when he's managed to carry them over such a long period of time in comparison to those who are ahead of him. So I'd doubt its one of the Pakistanis.

There you go. Well Lee's is certainly the most impressive isn't it. Considering he has played much more games than the other two. I wonder if there is anyone in the top 5 close to Lee who has played 75+ games. Waqar is quite close at 30.6

Makes you realise how good Bond was before he got injured i suppose and how good a talent he could have potentialy been. Not only is his strike rate exceptional but his RPO is superb for a strike bowler.

I was thinking much the same thing.

well Bond's stats probably would have gone down abit over time but still, exceptional bowler. hope his comeback goes well, NZ desparatley need him firing.

No, there isn't. Of players with 50+ games, Lee is a mile in front of everyone else.

If you look at sub-30 strike rates in fact, nobody else with over 50 games has one.

I hope they go down but in reality they will probably go up, which i guess is what you meant.

Just hoping the selectors don't fall into the trap of thinking that he deserves a spot in the Tests. If one of the selectors happens to be browsing these forums (very likely ;) ), then please stick with Dizzy. Lee will be useless in the Tests as there is more time to wait for the bad ball which quite often does come with him, and Diz and Kasper will be able to work themselves back into form while Glenn and Warney clean everyone up.

The argument that the pace unsettles batsmen, cast your mind back to India's tour of Australia a little while back, when he was picked as he was the last man standing and was carved up with such incredible ease.

It's a difficult one - Jason Gillespie has been such a quality bowler in the last couple of years, and Kasprowicz has been knocking of the door for some time. Lee, though, is HEAT - and as Boycott once said "Some can play pace better than others, but no-one likes it".

Your seam attack otherwise is one-paced and a little pedestrian.

Agreed, and I was saying the same thing back during the tour of New Zealand. It was covered up there by the brilliance of McGrath and Warne, but it's less likely to be that way against England. Right now I'd be backing Gillespie to break his poor run of form and join McGrath and Lee in the attack, but Kasprowicz has a few things over him.

a) he's better suited to bowling first change with the old ball.
b) he's likely to trouble England's left handers and provides a specialist sort of option who's very different from what McGrath and Lee send down.
c) he appears to be in better form than Gillespie right now.

So, if Gillespie doesn't show a bit before the end of the ODIs and tour games, he may well miss out.

Lee should carry drinks for two reasons:

a) If Gillespie carried them, knowing his luck at the moment he would drop them
b) Even if our attack is one-paced, it does have McGrath and Warne, and having Gillespie and Kasprowicz in there too would mean that the batsmen would really have to work hard for their runs, as they will all keep it tight, whereas Lee would be more expensive and ease the pressure on the English, who have already indicated that they will probably be going on the attack in the Test series.

Brett Lee should keep playing because the more he plays the better he gets. he hasn't even been bowling that many bouncers yet :D
