Hair is a tad foolish for doing this but I can understand why he's done it. He's looking after #1 and anyone here who claims they wouldn't do the same is deluding themselves. That's not to say I like it though.

One thing is for certain, it's re-affirmed my dislike for Malcolm Speed...he's so smarmy and self-righteous it makes me cringe.

Who can really like a person who looks like this?

As a friend of Darrell's, I have my own opinions on the unfolding drama which I don't think I should share in this forum. One thing that I will say however, is that while I never thought too highly of Malcom Speed, this has just increased my dislike of the man one hundred fold.

As far as I understand, the emails were to be kept priviate and by making them public, Speed is looking for a reason to boot Darrell and this just may be it. I wait with baited breath to see the outcome of the hearing, but I have a feeling I know how it will all end...

but your from pakistan..you just can't help it.
Have you been taking lessons from the Darrell Hair school of tact and diplomacy?

I think we need not only a warning on our part, but an apology on yours.

Think before you type please people...

And Fraz - not responding to a post for 29 minutes as we're not constantly online isn't leaving it alone.

I am happy and I am sorry :) ...

Then Why bring it up ?
Because I was making a point about having an opinion which I don't think I should bring to the forum as it may end up with a warning or ban...

Then I won't tell my joke about the queer magician on a skiing holiday as that would be equally irrelevant and result in a ban as well.

How bad does this look for cricket?

Whatever Malcolm Speed's machiavellian role in this - and though it may be unfair to hold a mans looks against him, Speed may be the exception, Hair has certainly lost all credibility in this matter now. He merely looks a man of no real integrity and class - not to mention grace under pressure.

All that potrayal of him as an upstanding man and umpire goes flying out the window if he was prepared to sell himself just 36 hours after the whole hoo - ha.

GG to the ICC, Malcolm Speed (who probably should also hang up his jersey - but that is never going to happen) and Darrell Hair. _b

The Muralitharan thing - yes Hair was the only umpire that called him,
You forgot about Ross Emerson - who called Murali for chucking leg spinners.

With a special guest appearance from Sanath Jayasuriya's shampoo.

And Sanath is also a wrist spinner .... Who knows shampoo better than them..
Inzi Award nominee?

Rationale; I'm struggling to see the relationship between wrist spinning and expertise in all things shampoo.......

Think harder! Jermaine Lawson, James Kirtley & Johan Botha all have questionable actions. Lawson tends to wear his tee-shirts below the elbow too.

Peter Roebuck has even suggested that Fred chucks his faster ball too, although I can't see it myself.
True. Has he actually umpired any games with these three? Lawson iirc, was called by some umpire pretty early in his career and then had his action fixed. I haven't seen him since. (as in, i havent'seen him bowling after that)

Kirtley again, and hasn't come back due to teh strength in the england pace attack now.

And Botha I haven't seen enough of, or even heard enough of to even know :P

I don't think what Hair did is shameful at all. If anything it was a semi-honourable way out. He is looking for a solution for all involved and getting a payout under the table would work out well for everyone, mostly the game of cricket.

His only mistake was leaving evidence that looks like extortion. Making an offer like this, not in person is idiotic. I was and still am critical of Hairs initial actions in this whole mess but in the latest twist in this saga I think he did the right thing in offering the ICC a solution to this problem.

I too didnt get the bit about the shampoo but I generally assume that being an 'antique' I am often going to be 'out-of-things'.

However, Sanath is NOT a wrist spinner Fraz (as in Warne, Kumble, Kaneria and Adams) , he is a finger spinner (as in Harbhajan, Bedi, Vettori andeven, yes even Murali). :)

BTW, what did you mean by the shampoo bit?

Don't have the time to read through all of this......I just want to say, I think it's ridiculous that people think it's outrageous for Hair to ask for a payment. Well, if it was someone in a less high-profile job who was ending their contract early, they'd get some money for future loss of earnings, so I don't see why it should be viewed any differently.

Actually, this article in The Times pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter of the whole ball tampering incident :)

I certainly agree with him on one thing.

Shahriyar Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, appears most confused. “What a wonderful sight it is to see cricket between Pakistan, a Muslim country, and England, where the majority are Christian. Why destroy this over a technicality?” he asked. With respect, Shahriyar does not know his technicalities from his elbow. The rules of cricket are not a technicality; Muslims and Christians, in this context, are. The most stupid, the most catastrophically misguided aspect of this debate is the one that insists on bringing the world of religious politics into a row about cheating in a cricket match.

Shaharyar Khan was talking through the hole in his head here.
