Bracken's test chances

These are the spin options for Australia atm:

1.S.MacGill
2.C.Bailey
3.D.Cullen
4.A.Heal
5.N.Hauritz
6.B.Casson (but is he good enough to be mentioned on this list anymore now)
7.D.Doran

Now all these spinners have been below par through the season including MacGill, now who looks like the best option to replace MacGill, if MacGill doesn't perform?

If MacGill doesn't perform in the first few games of next season, it wouldn't surprise me if the Australian selectors go in with 4 fast bowlers. Certainly better than playing a lousy, out of form spinner.

Does Hogg have a chance?

As a Test spinner? No I don't think he should be near the test team, his First Class record is very, very average and reflects that he isn't much good in the longer form of the game.

Interesting hearing Greg Blewett talking about Hogg and why he's successful in ODIs and not Tests. Blewett said that the white ball made a big difference, to him at least, because it was easier to pick his variations when he bowled with a red ball as you could more easily distinguish between the shiny side and the dull side, whereas with a white ball he struggled to pick it. Now obviously this only affects players who rely on picking it in the air, rather than out of the hand or off the pitch (not that the later is a great way to do it anyway), but it does seem to a concrete reason from a guy who has played against Hogg as to why he's successful in one format and not the other.

If MacGill does not play, it makes no sense to pick a spinner when there are 4 seamers with impossibly greater credentials.

I really hope Bracken gets the oppertunity to play , he deserves it , and hes got the control in his bowling to match.

As for the spinner , I'd play Macgill , but I don't know that much about spinners in Australia.

I understand what you're saying, I can't see why others are becoming confused.

I do also think that our bowling lineup will be:

Clark
Lee
Johnson
MacGill

But I would prefer to see:

Clark
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
MacGill

Ignoring Hilfenhaus is a huge mistake. Having watched him at the Gabba and followed his progress last season, he seems like such a natural talent who has a knack of picking up quality batsmen.

Yeah, I know it's frowned upon here but I'd like to see him eased into international cricket in the one-day side for abit before we start thinking about him for Tests. Granted it's a completely different format, but it is the big time and I want to see him become a fixture there first especially over the summer. Was rather disappointed they didn't play him in India tbh.

Having watched him in person I have every confidence that he is ready. The only thing that could be holding him back is if he got a bit nervous or couldn't handle it mentally. He's definately got the talent and skill.
