Trumper as he played in an era tougher for batting.
tbf if the pitches are awful even Tom, Dick and Harry can have insanely high output IE Mitchell Santner in IndiaI'd say that since the batting averages were lower in his day then Trumper probably faced better bowlers too.
Just because some pitches were bad doesn't mean they all were. They were probably better than the green mambas Australia has rolled out lately and the bunsens of the sub con. And it doesn't mean the bowlers lucky enough to bowl on them like Bumrah, Cummins and Ashwin were "Tom, Dick and Harry".tbf if the pitches are awful even Tom, Dick and Harry can have insanely high output IE Mitchell Santner in India
Australia was probably pretty okay to bat in as there seems to be plenty of high scoring games there, but on wet wickets in England and matted ones in South Africa I would argue the pitch plays a huge factor to the averages being lower.Just because some pitches were bad doesn't mean they all were. I think that’s exactly right, though I haven’t checked the stats. It would explain the lower batting average for his era. Eng or SA still would’ve picked their best bowlers and no doubt their effectiveness would be enhanced.Australia was probably pretty okay to bat in as there seems to be plenty of high scoring games there, but on wet wickets in England and matted ones in South Africa I would argue the pitch plays a huge factor to the averages being lower.
