Big Bash League 2014/15

Hahahaha. This commentary is superb.

Anyway, I agree with most here that according to the rules, that should have been six and not out.

However, in the spirit of T20 cricket and also as a side-effect helping redress some of the imbalance between bat and ball, then it'd almost be worth changing the rules to make that out.

Happens every year as the wickets wear, and the ODIs come in and break up the rhythm of the tournament.
Its a fair point that.

I do like the Bash loads, its on at a perfect time for me, its only a few weeks unlike the IPL and more importantly rarely have I ever watched a Big Bash game and thought it was fishy. Their could be guys up to all sorts, but at least they make an effort to hide it.

I just think this year has been really average though, so many of the games even from early on have had very little twists unless if Perth have been bowling.

Although I suppose if it makes money, stands are packed, viewing figures are good, and everyone comes back next year then who cares?

So if you're fielding on the fence and someone belts one that is obviously going over your head for six, you can run back into the crowd, jump up and volleyball it back in to the ground and it's not six.

Yeah that'd be a great rule

It'd be in the spirit of T20 to reward the spectacular in that way. We could have springboards strategically located around the outfield.

Of course, they'd have to bring in the ropes a little bit more, but they've been bringing them in for years.

Could you imagine the excitement of Danny Morrison after someone completed a double pike somersault whilst completing the catch? It'd be orgasmariffic.

i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Another blowout today, and people have the nerve to suggest this is the best domestic t20 competition in the world.

Its marketed quite well, but the quality isn't anywhere near the standard we see in the IPL, heck it isn't much better than the Natwest Blast. To many washed up hacks who should piss off back to 2007 stealing a living.

Hopefully the knock out games are an improvement than what we have seen this week especially.
Mate I've seen plenty of blowouts in the IPL too.

I don't disagree. But you would have to draw the line somewhere, ie. you can be over the rope, but not in the crowd knocking over old ladies, stepping on young children and breaking your ankle between seats. But even if that rule came into place, the umpires have shown how completely incompetent they are in understanding and enforcing simple laws of the game and it would be a complete **** up.

you would expect the ipl to be higher standard though, due to all the overseas players. i just find the big bash more entertaining and less garish personally

There's still been some pretty great games to watch. Brisbane vs Hobart (first time), the past two Stars games before this one.

Again, the past 10 days of the tournament shows how good wickets make T20 cricket, that's really the big competitive advantage that we have over the other T20 competitions IMO. And as they've deteriorated in the tournament the spectacle has gotten worse.

Yeah, tonight is the first time I've felt like throwing a shoe at the TV listening to the commentators in the tournament. Unlike IPL or Ch 9, when it's every second over.

Big Bash has higher quality local players, especially when compared to English T20 (don't they have like 16 teams?)

Also no SA/NZ/Aus internationals etc and a limit of 2 overseas players... I think the Big Bash is doing just fine thanks. Of course its always a shame when the team batting first doesn't get a competitive total but that isn't unique to the BBL, just yesterday I was praying for England to get 3 figures after the 1st over.

I think the perceived slip in quality as the BBL has worn on this season is due in part to the poor Spotless Stadium pitch for the past few Thunder games and the questionable Etihad Stadium pitch, as well as the bottom team the Heat having all of their 8 games within a very short period, far shorter than any of the other teams (before Hughes' death, their last game was meant to be next Thursday, not the Thursday just gone).
