There have been only 4 instances of a team winning a test match despite being forced to follow on and 2 of them are thanks to them.

Laxman. Because scoring nearly a triple ton in those circumstances is unreal.
Only Gooch's 154 and Lara's 153 better that knock.

Although if there is any other innings which can qualitatively match that, I'm very interested to know!

Overall match performance is still Laxman. He scored a superb 59 in the first innings and was sawn off given out caught off his arm. Combined, it was basically one long innings of 340 runs.
Botham also scored a 50 in the first inning though, but more importantly, he also took 6 wickets in the first inning including Border and took the first wicket of the second inning, 7 wickets and 200 runs I'll take over 340 in one game personally

not even bothams best century that series. the old trafford knock is the real goat knock. he was in complete control, smashing the bowling to all parts.

Australia won the first test.
Second test was drawn.

3rd Test
Aus scored 400+ in 1st innings.
Eng all out of 176.
Eng forced to follow on.
Eng were 135-7.
Eng all but lost the match.
Botham scores 149* off 148 balls.
114 runs out of 149 came in just boundaries.
Aus were set a target of 130
Willis take 8 wickets and Aus are all out for 111

Maybe the century at Old Trafford was better.
But this was the coolest story.

Clearly Bob Willis’ match.

Botham gave them a chance but Willis turned it into a win.

Yes Willis played a huge role but it was Botham’s match. Botham took 6-95 in first innings and 1-19 in second innings.

Eng scored 174 in 1st innings. Botham top scored with 50 off 54 runs.

England were 135-7 and Botham scored 149* off 148 balls in the second inning.

Was it a pitch where you’d be not confident chasing 130?

Willis gave one of the best ever bowling performances of all time but it happened due to Botham in the first place.
