This is why I find the nostalgia merchants for early/mid-2000s cricketers in particular just to be really bizarre. We have been absolutely blessed in the last five to ten years to watch some truly exceptional cricketers in much more balanced conditions in general than the mid-2000s lot ever really faced on a regular basis and yet you'll still find people insisting that Test cricket was so much better in those days.

That's partly because cricket before 2007/08 was immune to heavy commercialization and players were not playing insane amount of cricket in a year. Adding to the fact that the atmosphere was not so politically correct, animated exchanges between cricketers were normal. Basically it felt like the game still had it's 'soul'.

Not saying that current cricket offers lower value, it's just that everything feels too sterile and perfect. Or maybe I've grown out of being a cricket fanboy/addict.
