Best six hitters

Can't look past the man at the top of the list for mine.
He has a few more sixes than Cairns but 3 times the runs!! How can you possibly say that he was a better six hitter at international level than Cairns?

Cairns absolutely stands out in that list, I honestly wonder if some of you are looking at the same list?

runs-to-sixes ratio has little to do with six hitting ability.Viv richard may not have the best ratio, but with a class guy like that you can't expect him to get most of his runs from sixes.

michael Holding got 25 6's from under 1000 runs. But he aint the best six hitter.

Jacob Oram is an under-rated six hitter. Boy can he hit them a mile or two...

Ask Nico Boje.

Oh yes, I'm looking at the same list, but the difference is I'm looking at it without any bias since there's no Englishmen near the top.

Richards oozed quality in everything he did IMO, whereas Cairns is more of a swinging merchant.

And BC_F, to say he's the best in the world based on one innings is a bit strange, especially when you break down who he actually hit them off.

3 off Boje and 3 off Rudolph - wow(!)

Viv did it to the good and quick bowlers, not part-time spinners.

I really like Ganguly's sixes. They look damn good. It doesn't seem like he uses much force. Its all timing and it sails over the top.

SURELY you base the "best six hitter" on a combination of two factors

a) hitting lots of sixes
b) hitting sixes regularly

Despite Marc deciding that I'm biased , you can look at that list 1000 times and get the same conclusion every time-Cairns has the best combination of these two factors

Agreed, due to the criteria I outlined above, which I thought was fairly self-evident.

Try analysing who the sixes are actually hit off though - Jacques Rudolph is hardly the best bowler ever now is he...

the best way to look at this is...your team needs a 6 off the last ball..if they dont get it you die...who would you want to bat for your life in this situation. Gotta be King Viv on that one.Cairns would be close

But after Cairns performance (158),which had 6 good sixes,it is ovbious he is the best six hitter in the world.Possibly,ever.

Another stat that list doesn't show is:

Chris Cairns 58 matches; 96 innings; 84sixes
Viv Richards 121 matches; 182 innings 79 sixes

You do the maths.

Razzaq for me. :)
Yep me to.

Maybe Ponting as well because he can hit low full tosses for six about as good as anyone and when a bowler is looking for yorkers you get quite a few of them.

Matt Hayden's sixes look like flicks to me on some grounds.

With his big strong arms and shoulders and the weight of his bat, they just fly off the bat.

Cairns is a master at hitting good fast bowlers for six. This season alone he has repeatedly embarrassed Ntini and Sami with massive blows. One of his most famous shots was a straight drive off Brett Lee and Wellington that went absolutely miles.
