Yeah, it was. That was some amazing batting in that series by Viv.A couple of contributions from Viv
Long series - 1976 in England - 829 runs at 118.
Scores of 232, 63, 4, 135, 66, 38 and 291 (he missed one of the tests)
Short series - 1979/80 in Australia - 386 runs at 96
Scores of 140, 96, 76 and 74 against various combinations of Lillee, Hogg, Thomson, Pascoe & Dymock
EDIT
I've just spotted the bit where I was suppsoed to have watched the contribution, which wasn't actually the case for the series in Aus. I'll leave it there unless guys like Social & Burgey who I think would've seen it reckon it wasn't all I've cracked it up to be.
Almost O'Brien-like one could sayHandy contribution.
hmmmm.... IIRC, only one of those games was actually televised. The last one. And I remember he never got even one lucky break during both innings....He got ridiculously lucky. Vaas took 26 wickets in that series, and plumb lbw's against Lara off Vaas was turned down more than ten times during the series. If all those were given, Lara would have averaged below 30. He did master Murali in that series, but was Vaas' bitch throughout the series. (**** off those SL umpires!)
Nah....Not a patch on Hadlees 33 wickets IMO. Hadlee did it in just 3 tests and in Australia while Imran's 40 wickets took 6 test and was in home conditionsHas Anyone mentioned Imran 40 Wickets in the 1982-83 series ? Probably the finest by a bowler in a series.
A bit excessive to say it was not a patch on Hadlee's effort. Imran took his wickets on some of the flattest pitches around and was streets ahead of any bowler on either side in that series. Certainly the equal of Hadlee's effort imo.Nah....Not a patch on Hadlees 33 wickets IMO. Hadlee did it in just 3 tests and in Australia while Imran's 40 wickets took 6 test and was in home conditions
Faircall. I probably didn't give enough consideration to the conditions in hindsight, might have to read more about that series. Would need to have been pretty special to match Hadlee's though.A bit excessive to say it was not a patch on Hadlee's effort. Yeah that was a great performance too but it is unfair to suggest that Imran's performance isn't a patch on Hadlee's. IMO there are equal.Nah....Not a patch on Hadlees 33 wickets IMO. Hadlee did it in just 3 tests and in Australia while Imran's 40 wickets took 6 test and was in home conditions
Spot on. I consider Imran's performance the greatest by any bowler in a long series. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that Imran bowled against a great batting lineup of Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Vishwanath and Amarnath, whereas the Aussie team Hadlee bowled against was pretty mediocre. Having said that, 33 wickets in 3 tests is amazing.Yeah that was a great performance too but it is unfair to suggest that Imran's performance isn't a patch on Hadlee's. IMO there are equal.
Yes Imran did it in 6 tests but he bowled in only 10 innings compared to Hadlee's 6. Imran bowled only 223 overs compared to Hadlee's 169 (only a difference of 54 overs in 3 tests). Imran was bowling on pitches in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad whereas Hadlee was bowling @ Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
Also, those who watched that series know that Imran's wickets in that series had nothing to do with umpiring (and this is from an Indian). It was Imran at his best, period.
Edit :- For some reason, I didn't see Dasa's post before I posted mine.
