If picking a South African all time ODI XI four of the main five bowlers are probably set in stone:

1. Donald
2. Pollock

4. Klusener
5. Tahir

Which of the following would be the best option for a Saffa alltime ODI XI?

Sorry one of those "Steyn options" was supposed to say Nel. If possible could a mod fix the poll?

I voted other ..My fifth bowler would be Maharaj , with Kallis and Cronje as the 4th and 5th seamer options ..

I realise that in ODI cricket you do need some deceptive bowler options to thrive can't just all be about pace , Tahir is a wicket taking spinner but you would also need an economical spinner to get a few cheap overs , and Maharaj has reached no.1 in odi bowling rankings so justified ..I do hope that in future Marco Jansen can be an all time great cause of that left arm variety.

My All Time SA ODI XI would look something like this :

1.Quinton De Kock (WK)
2.Herchelle Gibbs
3.Jacques Kallis
4.AB De Villiers
5.David Miller
6.Hansie Cronje (CPT)
7.Shaun Pollock
8.Lance Klusener
9.Keshav Maharaj
10.Imran Tahir
11.Allan Donald

Your list is ok...

But I can't imagine that list without Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn....

Steyn's not an automatic choice for a South African ODI side. His record is very similar to Morkel's and he's a long way from being the stand out in ODIs that he was in tests.

No love for Du Plessis? Hard to compare across eras but he has a Joe Root/Williamson tier record though longevity is an issue.

I do think Morkel and Steyn deserves a nod; but Fannie de Villiers is even over Donald for me in ODIs.....
