Best innings in a bad pitch.

Opening match of a series. Away. In front of a full stadium, apparently "the best-attended Test in history."-Wisden. Although everyone got kicked out later, lol.

Pakistan: 185 all out

India: 223 all out

Pakistan: 316 all out
Saeed Anwar: 188* Strike Rate: 72.58 thus, opening and carrying his bat through.
(Javal Srinath had bowling figures of 8/86 in this innings).

India: 232 all out

No other batsman got a 100 and only 4 other batsman scored a 50+ in the entire match.

Seems like a brilliant performance on a wicket described by Wisden as "a seaming pitch."
That was a gun match. Pretty good performances all around. Anwar's knock was really good in that match. Probably the best opener Pakistan had after Hanif

It was a good test cricket pitch and Saeed's batting was good but I don't believe it fits the criteria of a good inning on a bad pitch. Watched the game live, there was some awesome bowling by pakistanis and Javagal Srinath.

Yeah nothing bad about the pitch there. Trinidad 1995 to me was the greatest test of any batsman, against a top attack. Bad pitch, tough weather conditions, Curtly/Courtney.....

If Pakistan win this match, Shafiq or Misbah could be a candidate. No one has crossed 50 yet in the match, I believe.

The pitch isn't that bad though. Put a good player of spin on it and a hundred isn't out of the question at all.

Have you seen how much spin the spinners have gotten though? Shiv has been beaten countless amount of times. Also factor in the low bounce.

This is a "bad pitch" by all accounts.

Agree. A lot worse than the overwhelming majority of pitches mentioned so far in this thread.

The game is into the fourth day and you'd have to say both sets of batsmen have made the pitch look worse than it is. It's not a terrible pitch, if you graft hard you can still make runs.

Excuse me? Just about every over has a delivery that either kicks up or stays extremely low. It spins by the yards and has extremely variable bounce. How is this not a bad pitch???

I don't think you've been following this match Spark. Chanderpaul has been extremely lucky for his 36, even though he has great temperament he could have just as easily bitten the dust like the others. This is not a pitch with just some rough patches which assist spin, basically the whole pitch does. And couple that with the variable bounce smalishah mentioned, put all the world's best batsman you want on this pitch they'll be made to look like school boys too if a ball does something unusual, which it's been doing for almost every over.

Not saying I don't like it though, as Got Spin said in the other thread I love seeing a match where the ball dominates the bat.

Is there any coverage of this match here aside from arvo highlights?
