Interesing to see their top ten test bowlers. Murali is ranked number one. Warne at 4. Surprisingly Walsh edges out Ambrose.

With the bowlers Pakistan had in the 90s it's strange they didn't win another WC in the 90s.

Didn't know that about Wasim though that he was worse at home in ODIs than in tests. But it is no secret that it is very difficult to bowl well on sub-continental or Sharjah pitches in ODIs. And Wasim was very good in these places.

I was actually looking for the 1996 WC semi-final b/w windies and Australia but couldn't find it. I wanted to see that ball again where Steve Waugh got rid of Lara. An absolute peach of a delivery I remember and Lara was batting so well.

I guess Warne was just so good in test matches that I really don't recall too many of his ODI exploits. Had forgotten about the 99 WC. But I agree that Warne was a player for the big stage. And he brought so much to the side. It was a treat to watch him captain the Rajasthan Royals. One of the best captains that cricket never had.
Steve Waugh got Lara bowled in that match. Yeah, he was batting beautifully.

I remember the square-leg umpire stopping a Richie Richardson sweep that was destined for the boundary with his head in that match. Saved four runs for Australia. Who knows what would have happened if that boundary had been scored.

Shane Warne is certainly a good shout. But will not go beyond being a good shout. Couldn't resist pulling Warne, Murali and Saqlain's records against, ahem, the best players of spin :D

Code:
[B]Span Mat	Inns	Overs	Mdns	Runs	Wkts	BBI	Ave	Econ	SR	4	5[/B]
Murali v India	1993-2010	62	58	541.3	28	2313	74	7/30	31.25	4.27	43.9	0	1
Warne v India	1994-2001	18	18	162.2	2	844	15	3/38	56.26	5.19	64.9	0	0
Saqlainv India	1996-2000	36	34	307.2	14	1390	57	5/45	24.38	4.52	32.3	2	1
Notice the number of maidens that Warne has bowled.

If it was only about performances against India, then yes. But no. From the above; Murali has a good shout, and that's it, against Saqlain. ;)

Saqlain definitely was taking wickets more rapidly, but Murali has a significantly better ER, specially considering that Murali played right through the naughties. So, I think it's tight between Murali and Saqlain against India.

Yeah Saqi clearly better in strike rate and average...but i am surprised to see his economy rate....

Murali concedes 43 in a match against India whereas Saqlain concedes 45. But Saqlain strikes 11.6 balls faster per wicket. That's not close at all.

Well, to his credit he is taking wickets at a fairly fast clip. That's what usually happens.

If it was only about performances against India, Aaqib Javed would probably be the greatest ODI bowler of all time. The ****er feasted on us.

You have to adjust for eras too. While I won't mind conceding that Saqlain is better against India, I also feel that that is not a good way of looking at averages. A small differences in averages can mean a much bigger proportion of significantly above and below par performances. Specially if samples are large enough. In this case we are talking about 100s of overs of sample. Look at the number of maidens as a significantly above par performance. And you see what a difference of less than 1 rpo between Murali and Warne translates to.
